How do you carry your shotgun when backpacking?

Just curious, why do you need a shotty while backpacking? Bear country?

Giarc-I don't go in the bush/forest without a gun. I assume others here do the same.

I don't go to the ####ing can without a gun, let alone to the woods.

First shell is 00 Buck shots( For likely a warning shot or to wack a zombie ) & the rest high velocity slugs

Makes sense, I hunt with my 12 when I hike otherwise I'd do the same. I imagine 00 would turn my meal into a fine mist .

Because it's fun to have, but mostly because I hike in dense brush in an area with both black and grizzly bears.

Wish i had the "Scout" folder.

I carry my protection gun loaded and slung on my back in a high risk area or where i've seen activity in the day of...

If walking into a hunting area from a drop off or parking spot, it's usually either cased (sock or whatever) as to not draw unwanted attention or unloaded slung, or 2 handed unloaded.

If i'm just camping and hiking in an area where there's low threat of an attack (99% of the time) I have my shottie unloaded and in my sack or safely secured to my 4 wheeler.

If i'm hunting in that particular area it's loaded and 2 hand carried.

All pretty common sense i guess.

Single point sling, on left shoulder so the pistol grip of my Knoxx specops is at my right hand. 14" bbl so it doesn't get in the way or hit the ground. My preference is loaded tube, nothing in the chamber, safety off. In a high stress situation I think it's easier to remember to cycle the action than take off the safety. 00 buck followed by slugs.
