How do you clean your trigger group?

I can't get the G96 Crud Buster locally so probably just going to go with brake cleaner or varsol. Question: are these safe to use on plastic? I feel like maybe they might damage or discolour plastic.

Remove trigger group from the 870/1100.
place strainer in sink.
boil kettle of water.
place trigger group in strainer.
wet trigger group with warm or hot tap water.
scrub trigger group with old tooth brush.
add favorite dish soap to tooth brush and scrub again.
when kettle has boiled pour over trigger group.
remove hot trigger group from strainer and place on a towel to dry or in the dish rack at edge of sink.
the trigger group will air dry in short order.
lubricate trigger group with G-96 or other choices.
re-install trigger group and you are good to go.
Tight Groups,
Rob

Holy CRAP Rob - thats a 2 week job there ! :p its just a frigging shotgun - blast it out with brake clean then blast in some G96 and go shoot it ! RJ

Brake cleaner or varsol are fine for plastic parts. Many of the gun-specific aerosol degreasers are practically the same as brake cleaner, but at a much higher price per can.

Brake cleaner is deadly on plastic parts and dries them out severely and makes them brittle. You couldn't pay me to spray brake cleaner on a gun. And there arent many trigger groups that aren't made with plastic anymore.
