How do you cut a butt stock?

I'm going to be installing a Jones Stock Adjuster, the "grind to fit" version at the top of the page, along with a Kick EEZ pad.
I will need to put the two together and grind them both at the same time.

For those of you who made their own jigs, would you please post up some pics if not too much trouble? Us guys like to see pics to get the creative wheels turning.
 
So, attach the adjuster to the stock and the pad to the adjuster and grind them to fit. Of course, as soon as the adjuster is moved, the line is broken. Personally, I think a Kick-eez pad would make a decent doorstop but not much else.

Thanks for the reply, but please don't turn this thread into the great recoil pad debate.........
 
I trimmed an inch from the wife's laminate stock when I installed the limbsaver - two wraps of yellow 3m automotive masking tape (the stuff that sticks!), wrapped the stock in towel to protect the finish and fastened it to a piece of plywood with screws and all-round strapping, squaring the butt to the plywood, using a shims where needed. Marked the amount I wanted to trim, and cut with a fine-tooth blade in my mitre saw - I did a test cut 1/2 way first and no splintering. Same with the final cut. Scribed the backing of the limbsaver and got close with the belt sander, then lots of test fitting / trial and error. Spray the abrasive belt with Move-it or the like to give a nice smooth finish to the rubber. Mine turned out alright, if I say so myself.

Yes Phil, it looks good.

It's really the Jones adjustable pad that I need to install, so the shotgun fits me better. The recoil of a 20 gauge isn't bad, so a recoil pad is really not needed but will be added anyway.

Since the pad grinding jig seems to be unobtainum in my parts, and I'm not about to order one from the US, I'm assembling the parts / pieces to make one, Graco or similar style.

Does anyone know the screw size [ holding the pad in place ] on these jigs? 8/32" 4mm?

Also, anyone know the standard hole spacing that they come with to fit different pads? While I'm drilling / tapping holes, I may as well do them all at once.

I tried a few different methods... settled on and have been using for the last 40 years or so - a band saw... 3/8" blade about 7 or 8 teeth per inch and an altered miter slide I can hold the stock firmly in place...
