not sure if the title is clear cause im not really sure what it's actually called but I have shot several times at local club get togethers and turkey shoots etc but I want to get into competive registered trap like with trophys and provincals and chamionships etc.

can someone explain to me the what, when, where and hows of getting into offical recognised matches and how the scoring/ranking system works, diffrent divisions etc etc.

thanks
Kyle.

You can register for a registered trap shoot at any trap club that is holding a registered trap shoot event.. The best way to find out when they are scheduled is to ask at your local club. If they don't take part in any registered shoots, you can find out where they are through the ATA website. That website will also give you the information on class qualifications etc. When you first start shooting registered trap, you will be penalized to, I believe, "B" class singles and doubles and 20 yard handicap. They are trying to minimize sandbaggers wanting to get into a lower class. Once you shoot x number of targets at registered shoots, you will be classified on your shooting average. They're might have been changes to this information over the last few years, so the best bet is to check out the website.

Go to the PITA web site. All information is there including a schedule of upcoming events along the west coast of BC and the US. You can even join online if you want to. The web site is www.shootpita.com. PITA stand for Pacific International Trapshooting Association

Good shooting and I will see you at the provincials. (they are being held at Vancouver Gun in May)

Trap Canadians Calgary

The Canadian championship are being held in Calgary this year, you will see some of the bestshooter from each province there. Hope his helps, the dates are usually end of june to the first part of july....

This is good advice. In fact I think Prince George and Quenell both hold PITA events ?? Check the schedule. We hold three PITA events in Kelowna and there are two in Vernon, come on down and bring the family. :)

just bought a membership to PITA so hopefully I'll see some of u at some matches this year. I'll be the one without all the fancy gear and guns ;)

oh and i was reading through the rule book and I read that you can only use up to 7 1/2 chilled shot or something like that??? so unless I read that wrong you can't use number 8's then? and what the heck is chilled shot lol. i dont wanna get disqualified for having illegal ammo lol

Not sure of PITA requirments but with the ATA you need 1000 SIngles, 1000 Handicap and 500 doubles in order to be properly ranked.

Seems like more than it is.
Good luck, its adicting.

Now as for the Canadian Championship. My club gets the honor of holding it this year.
Training for me starts in a few weeks. I am really looking forward to it. Even to the point of shortening up my Salmon fishing trip byu a day in order to have a practise day before the big events.

Other than getting back into the swing of things I think my hardest challenge is going to be the mental end of things. When I was at my last provincials I was just about exhausted by the end. I didnt even want to shoot competive trap for a long time.
I must learn to relax a bit more.
Now dont get me wrong I was succesful. But only at the "C" level. If I want to play with the big boys I must learn a different technique.

Good luck to all that are comming

Jamie

No I am sure this is the same as ATA

(c) Any load with a maximum velocity greater than 1290 FPS
(Feet per Second) with a maximum shot charge of 1 1/8 ounces
(31.89 grams). For 1 ounce loads (28.30 grams) the maximum
velocity is 1325 FPS; for 7/8 ounce loads (24.80 grams) the
maximum velocity is 1350 FPS as measured in any individual shot
shell. In addition, no load containing more than 1 1/8 ounces
(31.89 grams, tolerance +3%) and shot larger than number 7 ½
chilled shot can be used. The above standards replace the old
standard of no load heavier than 3 drams equivalent of black
powder.

It read that shot cannot be LARGER than 7 1/2 therefore 8 shot is fine and I use it in most of my 1oz loads. Hope to see you out shooting. I am the short, skinny bald guy with the mother of all scars on the back of his knee :)
