How do you guys mod your atlas bipods for preload?

My .02 cents worth....the Harris SBRM is far superior to the Atlas in my opinion. A few years back Atlas sold us several hundred bipods destined for 50 cal usage and they assured us they were adequate for the task. They were not even remotely adequate for the task and we ended up supplying LRA and not getting anything back from Atlas. Lesson learned...

We use the Harris SBRM on 308 and 338 and LRA on 50 cal. Occasionally folks use the LRA on smaller rifles and it is fine although it is overkill to some degree.

Man this thread is depressing. I just spent money on an atlas from the reviews on snipers hide and how they constantly tell people to toss there Harris ones away. Oh well I have both now and can draw my own conclusions (yay for small victories)

Lol! There are more posers on The hide then at a selfie convention. The Atlas has a huge following in the U.S and I have no idea why. As far as I know not a single military sniping unit has used it operationally.

I bought an Atlas a few months ago and am very happy with it. I have used Harris bipods and the AI bipod and prefer my Atlas. Would I love to have an LRA??, you bet..........but I didn't have the extra $150.00 at the time and needed a bipod for a upcoming match.

After using one I don't get what the big deal with the older Atlas was either, the new PSR model seems much more solid (Did you get that one?). I have gone through every bipod mentioned in the last few years and have come back around to my Parker hale (AI) bipod. For shooting prone, as long as you keep it loaded up it works great, is very fast the deploy, is very strong, the skid feet won't sink into the ground and it is a reasonable size.
The LRA is awesome and my only gripe was that its large size was not ideal when carrying the rifle on my back.

Used Harris all my life and bought an Atlas a couple years ago.

While I can appreciate some of the 'nifty' design/engineering that went into the Atlas, it has a couple of issues that bug me. It's much slower to deploy than a Harris and, when in the the up position, the legs can rattle and make noise as they don't have the tight springs holding them snug in place like a Harris. I should note that I used my bipods for target shooting & hunting.

I think an s-model (swivel) Harris with possibly a rota-pod would be my preference now.

Thanks! I kind of gave up in the tread a while ago. I think I have it figured out. I have a couple of ideas that I'm going to try. I realize I can buy spike feet and be done with it, but they only really work on grass or hard soil. If shrink tubing works to my satisfaction, I'll be happy. If not, I have another idea.

Continue the atlas flame fest!

I have harris and Atlas. Like them both, but harris rubber feet rotating was annoying. I bought the claw feet and when in grass it is fine and when on concrete I bring a piece of carpet with me so my hold is always the same.

I use an Harris SBRM on all my rifles. The LRA is an awesome piece of kit but for anything except a fifty cal rig, the SBRM will deliver just fine.

You could solve the need for preloading by simply getting behind the gun more lol. But why treat the cause if you can put a bandaid on the symptom. ;)

Easier said than done. In summer when Im wearing a t shirt vs winter when Im wearing a parka. Lots of things change. Preloading has a time and place.

Getting behind the gun has nothing to do with what you are wearing. Lol. It is the same if you are wearing a parka or wearing flip flops and a g-string. Same technique.

I would listen to advice from a DCRA Hall of Fame member......... just saying...... ;)

What you wear should have no bearing on your technique..........
