How do you open one of those canada ammo 7.72x39 crates

I hate opening thoes things! Man, if I was ever under fire I'd be out of ammo and dead befor I ever got it opened.

quick side note, once you get a corner pried up, use leather gloves to pry the rest open. cosmoline in cuts hurts like mad.

This is what worked for me,

Once I had got a corner of the soldered strip peeled back by pulling on the ring with a screwdriver through it. I grabbed the 1/2" piece of strip with some linesmen pliers (vise-grip would work or what ever) and rolled the strip back like those old style fish tins.

There was literally no effort in opening the crate this way. To prove a point to myself I had my 110lbs girl friend try this technique and she was able to "roll" open a crate with little trouble.

I was very pleased with myself for figuring this technique out, however this was preceded by much tugging, swearing and ultimately one sore and swollen toe LOL!

Hope this helps

P.s. I think I have just found my home on the internet! Thank You CGN!!!

Perhaps this is stating the obvious, but since no one mentioned it so far.......

You will note that there are four "D" rings on the metal can. The two that are hanging off the long sides of the can are attached to a metal strip that runs all the way across the can. It works best if you pull these off first. I found that the Vice Grips useful for pulling on those "D" rings. When that metal strip is pulled off you will see that the other "D" rings are attached to the metal of the top of the box. They can then be pulled to roll back the metal top (much better than the Tim Horton's roll-up-the-rim contest – everyone opening 7.62x39 is a winner). Revealed inside are all the wonders of 1950's - 1960's communist block military preparedness for your enjoyment.

I like my method at openin them oversized sardine cans. 10 feet of chain + duece and 1/2, chain tabs together and tow over bumpy road for a few KM.
Ended up using the two screwdriver method easier findin all the ammo in one spot.
