How do you release your slide on your semi auto?

Slam the mag on the guns that works with. faster in a match. On the other pistols, I use the slide stop lever. If the lever is not big enough, I put a dab of epoxy on it, to give me something to hit.

Seeing as I'm a lefty I mainly rack the slide, not all the pistols I have are fully ambidextrous. Although on a couple the slide release is big enough to use with me index finger which is no longer on the trigger, sometimes I slam the mag home. So I do all of the above to drop the slide, you should be comfortable doing them all if you look at it from a user standpoint.

There is a Larry Vickers video where he times the difference between using the slide stop and 'sling shotting' the slide. For HIM, it was quicker to sling shot.

I do either, whatever seems right at the moment, but most often use the slide stop. In the 'Wild Bunch' event in CAS where you shoot to lock back, I always use the slide stop.
Doing a reload on the move, it is more convenient for me to use the slide stop.

In the end, it is a matter of personal preference and training. Muscle memory will dictate what you do in the heat of the moment.

Not a competitive shooter so time not an issue.

IMHO it's a test that the action is clean and working properly which is good to know if you ever have to shoot one handed.

On my AR's, I use the BAD lever. Not one of your options. On all others, pull back on the slide and let er go.

+1 on the BAD lever. On pistol, I slam the mag releasing the slide.

Why is it an issue ( other than the OP's experience with Mr Anal Retentive of course ) ?

Slingshot the slide- it works the same way on every semi auto, unlike slide releases that are positioned differently from pistol to pistol.

Plus sling shoting helps you build muscle memory for clearing malfs. Ie dud rounds or mis feeds.

Yeah Mr Anal Retentive and I were simply talking about the S&W SW22 Victory as he has one as well. I mentioned about the TandemKross accessories on mine, we got to the mag disconnector topic then the convo went sideways with a "do you know you broke a federal law"...

The HK sfp9 has the tiniest slide stop I've ever seen on a gun. If it stuck out another 1/8" it would be perfect, as it is, it is very nearly flush and very difficult to release

Have you even handled a Glock? Slide stop is a tiny stamping.

Kind of non specific on situation...am I in a firefight.Is my strong hand injured....what happens if my thumbs are missing.Am I in a wheel chair,have to cross draw left hand, right hip holster,threat on the left side.....But then I have to ponder why the slide was locked back in my holster.....then I realize I didn't take my meds that day and I am sort fuzzy minded..

The slide release is generally the fastest way to get back on target.
I have small(ish) hands so when I started shooting, I racked the slide.
I have since adopted using the slide stop with my support hand after seating the mag and can say that it's way faster.
If you don't care about the speed then either method is fine, more personal preference or what the gun will facilitate

I usually sling shot, however I always use the slide release on my ruger .22/45. For my competition 1911, sling-shotting the slide is just part if my reload.
