How do you remove the front sight?

I am trying to put a nose cap on my Ross Rifle. How do you remove the front sight from a Mk.III? I removed the cross-pin and the sight blade. Tapped the sight base gently forward and the sight won't budge. Any ideas?

If you do go that way don't forget to support the front sight/barrel area. That way you don't loose the BFH energy and the rifle stays nice and stable on your holding fixture.ie kitchen table

Just keep in mind that there is a tiny key under that sight that positions it on the barrel. You don't want to lose that.

OOPS! thought you meant a SMLE front sight. Just focused on the MkIII instead of Ross. Mea Culpa. Senility is a #####!
