How Do You Remove The Stock Liner Of An M305 Or M14???

Anyone have a tool to remove the screws that hold the stock liner in an M305 or M14 stock?
Its a spanner screw and I don't have anything that will remove them.
Any suggestions?
 
Buy some cheap mini-needlenose pliers at the dollar store. The tips are usually small enough to fit the holes. If you can't find any small enough buy a set of their cheap files and file the ends to fit, or use a bench grinder if you have one. The dollar store pliers aren't usually heat treated and are easy to work with.
 
I would suggest anyone who is planning to remove a stock liner on a M305 source a tap with a proper pitch before starting this job. I really don't know if this is true for all the M305s and similar rifles but I found when I did a few to install in a Boyds M14 stock. I found the stock liner is two piece and the tack weld is not close to where the hole is drilled and tapped.
plus it seems they tapped the holes before tack welding so It is extremely difficult to get the stock liner screw to start into the second part of the liner. I needed to clamp the two parts together with vise grips and chase the threads with the tap. even then it was a little frustrating getting the screw through both parts. just a little heads up.

might need a die nut as well as one of the screws threads were kind of buggered
 
Note that it is not a standard spanner screw size. You won't find it in any tool kit.

I first made a tool out of a cheap scraper from princess auto. Hack saw and a file and patience. ...then I found one at the west edmonton mall. Go figure.

Their online store is gun-shop.ca. But they are currently out of stock. I also bet somebody from wolverine could order you one if you ask.
 
Albayo, I have one of those bits from Brownell's somewhere in my toolbox if you need to use one. If you're still stuck by the first of the week, and are close to Saint John, I could bring it with me to my work. PM me if interested.

It's been my experience that "standard" M1A stock liner tips only work on Chinese rifles sometimes.... the spacing in the screw is correct, but the reliefs in the stock is not a standard size...

I have a modified flat head screw driver that I filed down to fit Nork stockliner screws, for the ones that don't accept the standard driver tips.

I have also never had much trouble fitting Chinese stockliners to wood stocks like the Boyd's. That said, all things Chinese require a little tweaking to mate with American stuff....
