How do you snuggle with your rifle when doing f-class

Hey all,

Quick query: when you're shooting f-class is your body straight back of the rifle (presumably in a straight line to the target) or is your body canted off to the side?

I have heard that you should be straight back to allow for repeatable body position after recoil (and thus better shot to shot accuracy).

But I had originally read that you should have a comfortable body position so that you're not fighting your body (and thus moving your body) while shooting, which for me is canted on my non-trigger side.

Straight back has never felt comfortable for me (could be because of some back injury issues). But then again, a proper golf swing never feels comfortable to me either. But it is what you have to do to play.

Any advice would be appreciated.

Thanks,

PS - I'm also terrible at golf.

It's different for everyone and you have to go with what fits you. There are some guys that look like they are curled up in the fetile position and others are sprawled like they are in a king size bed....

Would seem that 'F Class' is no different in establishing a position than any other prone shooting. Find a position that is comfortable and repeatable and effective and practice it. As Budweiser... said it may be slightly different from person to person due to body structure. Attend a match or two- F Class, TR or 3 position matches , and see what positions are used. Some references:

"Position Rifle Shooting" & "The New Position Rifle Shooting" - Pullum/Hanenkrat
"The Rifle Shooter" - G. David Tubb
"Ways of the Rifle" - Buhlmann/Reinkemeier/Eckhardt

The last reference is considered to be one of the best ever published.

Nancy Tompkins had some good comments in her Prone and Long Range Rifle Shooting book - main point in the TR position is to keep a straight line down from your support arm to your leg and bring your opposite leg up, off set about 15-30 degrees from the target. Main reason is to bring pressure off of your diaphragm (breathe easier) and take some stress off of your lower back. Keeps your blood flowing better, as it's the most relaxed body position - I believe that it works in F-Class as well, after playing around with other set-ups. Your individual results may vary ...
