How do your deer slug gun groups look? Post pics.

Well deer hunting is right around the corner so I got out to sight my 835 with a rifled barrel on it in for the next deer hunt.

Gun:
Mossberg 835 w/ rifle sighted rifled barrel
Using a saddle mount with a Bushnell Trophy Red/Green Dot 3mm Dot.
Hornady SST 2 3/4 2000 FPS.

Roughly a 2 " group at 50 yards after my first two shots.

Shooting off an MTM Predator rest on a 45 Gallon Drum.


What are your groups looking like this year and what Ammo?

I tried shooting 3 Challenger Slugs with the same aim point and they hit almost 12-20" low and each shot was over 10" apart side to side, they suck in this gun.
Went to the local gun shop to buy two more boxes of the hornady rounds and they ol lady there said that another guy came in with a 535 with a rifled barrel and couldn't hit the board with Hornady but the challengers grouped well. Guy at work shoots the Hornady out of his 535 with scope and Cantilever but his friend shoots Challengers. Goes to show that every barrel is different.

From my old Ithaca, shortened barrel, Cyl. choke, peep sight with flat top post front. Target is 4" square, range 70 yds. Rottweil Exacta slugs, 2 3/4"

Another Ithaca. This one an M37 in 20 gauge with an M87 fully rifled barrel and Winchester Supreme Gold Partition sabot slugs.
Luckily for my wallet these extremely accurate and extremely expensive sabot slugs are no longer marketed by Winchester. In 2006 dollars the asking price was 17.99 for a five pack. For referance in 2008, 19.99 would get you ten RWS Brenneke Rottweil Classic 12 gauge 2 3/4" at WSS.

I need to get out and shoot some more slugs out of my Supernova, but I can tell you I'm pretty happy with how it shoots 2 3/4" Federals @ 100yds from a smoothbore.

there are a number of experienced hunters who are having good results shooting regular slugs in their rifled barrels . i know no one recommends this but try it .

3 inchs Rem 7/8 ounces rifled slugs at 1875 fps, out of my Benelli M4 smoothbore with a 3X9X40 Redfield @ 200 feets ( the further i will shoot on a deer with a smootbore)... JP.

At 100m my smooth bore rifle sighted 870 Wingmaster does about a 4" group with Winchester Rackmasters. Not that I'd ever shoot anything that far with it. I only carry it when dogging swamps.

This is normal. Rifled slugs in a rifled barrel are a no-no.

Some rifled slugs like Winchester Rackmasters and challengers can be shot out of rifled barrels just fine. The benefit is they're substantially cheaper then sabot slugs.
