How does a CZ858 compare to an AK47?

Yes i would agree the VZ is a good gun too, great deal for the money. I think we will be seeing a lot more of them this summer.

ive had a stamped chinese AK in .223 & a milled vastava AK in 7.62x39. My CZ is great, accuracy is way better, both reliable, AK breaks down easier, no scope on either but id like to mount on my CZ. CZ is lighter, Mags seem flimsier on CZ. I ring the 200 m gong almost every time with open sites. Mag release sux on the CZ. my .02

I have had the CZ-858 4v model (short chrome lined barrel, folding stock) for about a year and have since put a couple-few thousand rounds through it. I am fairly good about cleaning my firearms, but I have put at least 500 through it between cleanings from time to time without ever getting a jam or misfire (though on that note I have never ran it over or buried it in mud then tried to fire it either).

Unfortunately I haven't fired any of the AK series rifles for comparison, but even with the short 4v model CZ, I can fairly consistently hit a 6" gong at 300 meters without issue using iron sights. I can only assume this would be better yet if I had the longer non-restricted version.

I have had no issues with the magazine release on the CZ. It has always worked for me, and is easy to get at but does not snag on anything. Cant complain there.

The only complaints I do have with the rifle is it's wood-polymer furniture and the folding stock. In the rain, they provide very little grip compared to my other rifles. For this reason, I have the Fab-Defense custom furniture on order. As for the folding stock, in sustained firing, or for someone new to the rifle, the sling loop on the left side, and for a left handed shooter, the hinge on the right, have a tendency to impact the shooter's nose upon recoil if their positioning is slightly off... Minor gripe though.

Overall, the CZ is an excellent rifle. Low maintenance, easy to disassemble and reassemble, user friendly (minus the nose impacting issue...), accurate given the cartridge, light, and low recoil. It doesn't have the range of my M1A, but it doesn't have the recoil either, or the higher ammunition price.

Lol so how many of you guys who responed have actually shot AK's? The question is a loaded one its like going to a liberal fund raiser and asking what you think of Stephen Harper. Not all AK's are stamped, some are milled as well. It is the closest thin an average Gunnut can own to an AK, and does make for a very cool rifle.

No the Valmet is the closest thing to an AK you can get around here.... Just because the CZ and AK share some of the same visual characteristics, they're a completely different beast. All they have in common is the caliber..

I've put 1000's of rounds through AK's & RPK's, both civvi mods and in-service Battle rifles, I've also put 1000's of rounds through my CZ. I'll take the CZ any day of the week.

I've fired literally hundreds of rifles, carbines and battle rifles, and if the SHTF a CZ with a go-faster switch would without a doubt be the top of my list of ingredients. It is the best of both worlds.. eastern reliability, western-like construction. Mind you I've made lots of mods to my rifle to suit my needs, but the base is there.

A very underestimated rifle and one I'd neer part with.

Is the CZ actually that much better? I mean, the AK is the worlds most produced weapon for a reason. I need some specific reason for me to spend my money on a CZ and not get a Norinco AK47 which the Navy Seals seem to like.

Where did you hear that they used Norinco AKs?I hope you didnt get that from the Navy Seal show on the military channel, they also use Mini14s with Butler Creek folders, and SKSs with ATI folders with a scope mount for sniper rifles on that show!

Actually I read it online. I don't watch the discovery. Media is controlled. Especially those that document our so called "history".

It's the only true source open to the ability for free speech, along with countless texts and literature from our history, alternative media and let's not forget about classified and declassified documents from governments. If your not looking for it you won't find it.

Of course it being 100% accurate is not true, but it is for you to investigate what is real and what is not.

VZ for 700$ also comes with extras such as 4 mags, bayonete, pouch, cleaning tools..

I'm one of those conflicted persons who missed out on the last big CZ858 rush and is debating waiting for a CZ next time they come up for sale....... or just buying one of these 1950's Russian refurbs and then accessories on their own..... tough choices

I've fired the AK47 extensively over the past 15 years or so.
(hungarian, semi auto only). I would estimate I've fired 4 to 5 thousand rounds over that time in the AK.

I own a CZ-858 in Canada and AK shooting has been done out of country so I've never had the opportunity to shoot both rifles at the same time. However, I would say that I like the CZ much more than the AK.

The advantages of the CZ are:

-lighter
-much, much better trigger (the AK seems to have their weird trigger "slap" that hurts your finger after a bit)
-more accurate
-I can own one in Canada
-has a bolt stop
-easier to insert magazines

The advantages of the AK47:
-cheaper to buy the rifle and the mags (if you live in the US)
-looks cooler

That being said neither the CZ or the AK have anything on the AR-15 aside from being categorized as "non-restricted".
