How does that CZ-858 bug work again?

Had the CZ-858 "gremlin." The store I bought it from didn't know how to fix it. So I send it back to the supplier, who generiously fixed it for free, replacing the trigger assy. However, it still has the gremlin. Took it out for testing, it definitely fails to fire on occasion. You pull the trigger, but there is no click or bang, and the round has a dimpled primer. You have to manually chamber a new round to fire again. Otherwise, everything is accurate and smooth.

Looking at it, it was suggested to me that maybe a part of the bolt / bolt-carrier assembly (the weird hexagonal thing on the bottom that 'stays back' when you are reassembling until you pull the trigger, it is the part with an opening that you insert the bottom spring into when replacing the bolt cover) needed to be filed down and smoothed out a little. This could be it and I will try in fact replacing that part.

But I'm told that the striker or sear is often the problem. Which parts are those? I don't want to have to send it back again, it is a PITA. The guy at the range has 3 and they never malfunction and he has shot 6,000 rounds out of one. Mine hiccuped when both I tried it and when he tried it with his own magazines and ammo.

Ive had that gremlin with my cz858 once at the range last month..... since then ive cleaned it and used it again with no further problems... sure hope it doesnt happen again , thanks for the tip

the striker is the silver hex shaped 'tube" that fits in the back of the bolt

the sear is the part that grabs the striker and releases it when you pull the trigger

unregistered,
The striker is not caught by the sear during the cycle, therefore the striker
travels forward with the bolt and fails to ####. There are two possibilities
that cause this failure.
1. Sear does not positively engage striker. This can be due to poor striker/sear mating, either because of weak spring pressure and/or the surface
area between sear and striker is at a somewhat less then optimum angle.
Carefully file/hone the sear to achieve a square/parallel engagement area on the sear 'nose'.
2. Disconnector/sear trip fail to contact enough with the bolt assembly to disconnect/reset trigger. This is most likely to be the problem. In these mass
produce, inexpensive guns the +/- tolerances on the parts are somewhat greater. It can and has happended that when all the trigger and bolt parts
are on the minus side of their tolerance specs they fail to do their job.
Remove cover and springs from receiver (gun unloaded of course), work
bolt assembly back and forth while holding down the trigger (just like it would during a cycle) watch the the bolt carrier assembly contact and push down
the disconnector. Does it do it positvely or just half-heartedly, especially when one lifts up on the bolt carrier assembly while it travels in the
receiver rail.
I had to install a number of different Action/trigger parts at times to find some
that were on the plus side of their tolerance specs to make some guns work
properly. Best bet is to invest in a spare parts kit ($95) and switch out
the required number of parts to make the gun work.
This is just my opinion, so no guarantee's.
Cheers,
Wolfgang.

Correct me if I’m wrong but wasn’t the 858 gremlin a problem with the striker tabs being slightly bent out from each other and not ridding in their groves properly. Thus resulting in “click no bang”.

I think the fix was to gently tap the taps together or use a vice to pinch them together slightly.

NOTE: DEAR GOD!!!!! ---> don’t do this until someone, who knows A LOT more than me has confirmed what I’ve said. <-----

It may be shooting technique.

A friend was shooting mine, and was getting 50%+ "gremlins". I was worried that my rifle was having issues, but when I fired it, it operated flawlessly.

We figured that it must have been technique (rolling too much with recoil, or not having a tight enough grip).

It is defintly NOT shooting technique. No firearm should function any differently depending on the shooter.

There should be a sticky on this.

Basicly...buy a parts kit. It is my guess that it is a problem with the disconnector not tripping, so get the kit a replace it.
