I don't think the limitation here is the cartridge that people are referring to, it's the fact that he has a 9x hunting scope and trying to spot an 11" target at anything further is going to require more magnification.

hmmm i dunno about being under scoped... 9x is still pretty decent out to 500M, i can see .30cal holes in my 100M targets with my 10x.

I was really refering to the guys who say an 06 is only good out to 400 or 500 yds.

anything a .308 can do an -06 can do...



My guess comes from the OP's first post, an out of the box tikka lite shooting mid-grade factory ammo towards a 11x11 target at 300M+... i think the weak link it the chain is going to be the ammo.

That was the point, the scope, on an 11x11 target is going to be good only to about 500m.

After that...things start getting pretty small, pretty quickly.

Well, i had the chance to go to a 200 yard range the other day. At 100 yards, i shot my best 5 shot group at about 3/4" . My first time shooting out to 200, i grouped just under 2 " for my first group at 200. Gonna wait for it to warm up a bit to try some more extended ranges.
Just thought i'd let you folks know . BTW, that was from bipod
