i regularly practice out to 300 yards. i tried 450 yards once. i want to do it more. i enjoy it. the deer are usually within a 100 yards though. i probably wouldn't shoot more than 200 off hand unless i had a good rest.

I sight in at 100 and practice out to 150 to 200 max. The longest shot I've ever made on game was just under 200
That's far enough for me. Usually I like to keep it within 100

I sight in my crossbow at 25 meters

My 270 and my betterhalfs 243 are set for 3 inches high at 100 yards, that is the distance we practice at.
That would put the bullet, almost dead on at 200. My shots at deer would be limited to 250 yards. My choice.
My 270 has taken coyote's at 541 yards. I regularly hit a 16 inch gong at 500 yards. I wouldn't shoot at a whitetail past 250 though.
I have shot 4000 rounds out of various rifles this year, out to 1500 yards.

50 yds offhand with the .308. 40-100m offhand with the .22 for silhouette. Anyone can shoot minute of deer off a bench.

Ahh, good, this is what I wanted to see before making myself feel silly........
When it comes to practice, practice practice, I bring out the good .22's and my swinging silhuette targets and shoot from 50 to 100 meters. Then when i pull out the center fires they seem to shoot a whole lot better @ 150 yds :)

I practice out to 500, since that is the furthest I can find around here so far.

Longest shot I've had to make on an animal is just under 400. You get shots that are 0-500 around here, so it pays to know here your bullet is going to end up...

Have practiced out to 400yds but that "range" just got reclaimed.
Mostly set up at 100yds.

Other than that I go with what Ike said. Just pack a gun with a big mag. Hold high if it is smallish in the scope.

Bench work up to 200, off-hand at 50 and 100, since they are likely distances for most BC hunting. (though I did shoot a moose at 250 this year, with a tree branch as rest)

I practice out to 200 yards usually (load work ups at 100) and I keep shots at game under 300 yards. .270 is sighted 2.25" high at 100, .204 is dead on at 200.

I would shot further if I had somewhere to practice regularly, but for now I know I can hit the boiler room at 300, so that is my limit on game.

Not that it matters anyway as where I hunt the only places to shoot more than 100 - 150 yards is in the fields and there is not much in the way of safe backstops and a few too many houses to be blasting away at distant game.

You bet! 3 down the pipe the day before I head out and I'm good to go.

300 for practice, but 200 for hunting. Always practice beyond what you'll think you'll do.
