How far does shot travel

Does any one know the distance shot travels 71/2 1200fps? plus or minus 10 yards will suffice.

The military range template was 300m for bird shot. So this is likely pretty conservative and a good number to use in range development.

I put 1200FPS, .1 Ballistic coefficent and 5 grains into the norma ballistics program and like redleg said the shot hits the ground at 275 yards if fired horizontally from a hieght of 100 inches.

Fired horizontally from shoulder height it hits the ground at about 225. 1 sec after being fired.

I did 'nt know what 71/2 shot wieghs exactly so the 5 grain part and the BC are guesses.

Any little wind and it hits earth way sooner. even elevated you can't make little round ball go very far if they start at that velocity.

I have seen and remember 295 yards as the maximum distance for all conventional size 7-1/2 lead target loads at the optimum discharge angle above hoizontal. . Some of the newer "hot" 24 gram International loads could possibly drive 7-1/2 pellets slightly further, as these loads were not even developed when I ran across the research showing 295 yards. Wish I could find you a written reference somewher, but "no luck". I want to think it was something Winchester had researced and written about in the late 60's or early 70's when they were active in actually assisting to develop Gun Clubs as one of their marketting programs.
