How far down the spin of a AR 30 rounder do I pin?

I pinned mine at the bottom with 2 pop rivits used flat steel to form the rod. I started by making the rod a little long and after a fit test it was ground to proper length using a bench grinder. I learned it all here

RCMP may not care about the law but Canadian Customs certainly do, when I cleared Customs in Toronto the one inspector was very knowledgeable about the import regs, and knew exactly what paperwork was needed and what couldn't be legally brought in. And if they're not sure, they can look it up, which is exactly what she did to check she was right.

The regs require the magazine body to be altered, the regs list various ways, indentation, pinning, gluing etc.

In fact here it is: http://www.cbsa-asfc.gc.ca/E/pub/cm/d19-13-2/d19-13-2-06-e.html

For the purposes of subsection (4), altering or re-manufacturing a cartridge magazine includes

(a) the indentation of its casing by forging, casting, swaging or impressing;

(b) in the case of a cartridge magazine with a steel or aluminum casing, the insertion and attachment of a plug, sleeve, rod, pin, flange or similar device, made of steel or aluminum, as the case may be, or of a similar material, to the inner surface of its casing by welding, brazing or any other similar method; or

(c) in the case of a cartridge magazine with a casing made of a material other than steel or aluminum, the attachment of a plug, sleeve, rod, pin, flange or similar device, made of steel or of a material similar to that of the magazine casing, to the inner surface of its casing by welding, brazing or any other similar method or by applying a permanent adhesive substance, such as a cement or an epoxy or other glue.

Bump,

This is a good thread, should be a sticky. Does anyone have pictures on how to pin the mag using the pop-rivet or another method?? Garand's method looks great but might be hard for those without metal working tools...

Cheers,
Mike
