Valmet M78?

yes

I shot at Bisley with the C7 one year and r. surette was partial to clipping the ejector spring on all the c7's on the team, by one coil. This resulted in a neat little cluster of casings about 2' away from the shooter in prone and had 0 negative effect on reliability. I've done it to my own Colt with similar results. *** at your own risk, please - I won't be replacing any springs for you if you don't like what happens***

why would you want the brass close anyways?

clipping the ejector is fine IF your only doing range work.

If you have to shoot from a rollover prone or other position with the rifle canted and ejection port up -- it will not eject properly.

Rilfle will eject less furhter than carbines all else being equal.

The reason for clipping the ejector spring was to eliminate the stoppage the C7's were famous for, very dented round chambered, empty casing stuck between charging handle and bolt carrier key, the harder you pulled back to clear the stoppage the more nothing happened. Never had this happen with an AR 15 as they had weaker springs. If you have this problem lock the charging handle forward, stick your fingers up the mag well and push the bolt face back, the empety will fall out. If your fingers won't reach like me, use a screw driver ( part of my IA's tools either in my shooting kit or on my web ).

C7 springs

the reason for the new E&E springs in the C7 is because the CF wanted to keep the bolts interchangeable between the c7 the c8 and the possable PDW the newer springs are much stronger and seem to be a minor problem in some A1's (ussually wne the rings are aligned, the gass system is dirty, the gun is hot, blanks and/or full auto) the springs are needed in the c8 the A2 and the PDW because of the shorter rearward action. the springs have less time to work than in the full lenght c7's the problem with clipping the ejector spring will arise when the a2 upgrade hits and the bolts are not exchanged or the modified bolts end up being used in an a2 many stove pipes and failure to eject. the other bonus is you find out which mags are good and which are weak the first range practice after the A2's arrive (had about 50 mags that failed in one afternoon).
