How far to bed / freefloat ? (Savage 93r17)

I'm thinking about bedding my Savage HMR. In the picture below, The barrel attaches to the action at point B. Point C is just where the barrel is machined down.

Currently the barrel stops floating about half way between points B & C. Is this about where I should take the bedding up to to give the barrel some support or should I bed the action from A to B and freefloat the entire barrel? Note the location of the action screw near B.

I would bed the action only, and let the barrel free float. I have a 6BR Rem. 700 that was bedded 1 inch ahead of the action. It shot a lot better when I free floated that part.
