How far will .22lr go?

Last year at the deer camp me and a few other guys were discussing bullet drop of various calibers at various distances. We got on the topic of rim fires and had some disagreements on the actual distance a .22lr will travel. Looking at various ballistic tables after 150-200yrds it seems the projectiles seems to be falling faster than it travels forward. I said that a .22lr would not go the 2 miles the box says its dangerous to and there is a huge safety factor involved in that number but I need more proof. Do any of you have a actual chart with maximum distance indicated for lets say high velocity .22lr? What angle would you have to shoot to reach max distance? There must be a formula to give a maximum distance given bullet weight, trajectory angle and velocity, anyone know it? Im going sledding up north with these guys this weekend and would love to prove them wrong over a few beers. Thanks.

Basically at 903 yards, there is almost no velocity and it is dropping vertically.

I estimated the BC of a lead 40 grain subsonic so give or take 10% and you should be pretty much in the region..

Max range of 1000 yards but in reality; probably 950
Image of trajectory added; ignore the text at the bottom which says 55 grain VMax... I manually in put the settings for a 40 grain lead bullet but forgot to change the title......

Googled It

there was similar topic discussed here a while ago. I remember someone bringing up historical fact that someone died from headshot wound from a distance about 1400m. That tragic accident forced manufacturers to put safety signs on cartridge boxes saying "dangerous up to 1.5km" or something to that effect. I imagine from then on fudge factor and safety margin increased slightly, I don't think 22lr bullet is slippery enough to maintain velocities up to 2miles to do any harm.
