So, this might be more appropriate under "Optics", but I thought I would try here first. I have a CG63 in 6.5x55. It has standard Weaver 46/55 bases. I am hoping to install a scope - a buddy is using a Tikka T3 in 6.5x55 with 30 MOA rail and SFWA SS scope and makes hits on 1000 yard gongs. If I used a SWFA scope, with standard rings (not Burris inserts) - would I be able to replicate that, or do I need a 30 or 40 MOA rail on that Mauser rifle??

Zero need for a base the scope has more than enough elevation adjustment, your buddys tikka dosent need the base either

A 20 MOA rail is all one needs to get a cartridge like the 6.5x55 out to 1K
A few of us pooled componants a few years back, and used a 28 inch Benchmark barrel in 6mmBR with a 105 Berger on a Mauser action, 1 inch tube Tasco 24x silhouette ( 1/8 click turrets)scope and a 20 MOA rail.
First 5 shots out to 1,000 Meters went into 1MOA
We also do it with F/TR rifles in .223 and 308 with 20 MOA rails

Any of the ss fixed power scopes have more than enough adjustment don’t waste your money on a rail or Burris rings.

Get a ballistic app and find out for yourself. 🤷‍♂️

I am dual purposing my scope (SFP) - rated 1000 meters, 20 moa single piece ring and zero on both guns for picatinny.
What I learned that with taller rings you can reach bigger=wider range, let say 50-1000 or 100-1500.
Assuming that you have at least 50 MOA on reticle and turrets the range could be extended.
My setup with taller rings? My anchor is not on cheek soft tissue full with blood vessels, but on jaw bone.
