How fast are you pushing 140 ELD-Ms?

I am shooting a 6.5 creedmoor with a 24" barrel. Just started working with these bullets. I'm running some Reloader 16 behind them. I'm curious if anyone is running this combo and what speed you settled on. My gun seemed to like 2830 fps before I had to stop due to the sun ruining my sight picture. I'm going to load some more up at this charge and test again tomorrow but I'm curious if I'm selling myself short at this speed. I have 2 more charge weights to try and so far no pressure signs. Anyways, input is appreciated. Thanks

Okay, I will keep going and see what happens. Not a tonne of concrete data out there for this combo. I just wanted to know what guys are seeing before I keep going. I'm running Hornady brass at the moment and it seems every charge is compressed. I'm running these .020" off the lands to start.

I'm getting 2800fps. With 40.5 grains of 4350. That is the sweet spot for my barrel . Haven't really tried to push it much more. That's with a 24 inch BA tatical barrel. Used differnt headstamp brass no pressure signs. Factory eldx precision hunter loads are about the same speed out of that barrel but I'm getting flat primers with the factor hornady loaded brass.

Have my notes handy now

20" Tikka CTR
140gr Nosler HPBT @ 2.746" OAL (.195" jump to lands)
Lapua brass / CCI 450 primer
43.0grs RL16 ~ 2690 fps

20" Tikka CTR
143gr Hornady ELDx @ 2.94" OAL (.030" jump to lands)
Lapua brass / CCI 450 primer
40.7grs RL16 ~ 2600 fps

Thanks. Loaded some more rounds tonight and will do some more testing tomorrow. I will keep a close eye on pressure signs

I don’t have my reloading book handy but I also have a 6.5 Creedmoor CTR Tikka 143 eld-x h4350 Just shy of 2600 FPS with good accuracy and ES. In my rifle if I push them any faster I hit pressure. Does anyone have any theories why these rifle seem to be a bit slower than normal?

Using Varget or H4350, yes. But you can easily get +100/150fps using Reloader powders. Flip side being they are much more temperature sensitive.

Not all Alliant RL powders are sensitive. RL15, RL16, RL23, RL26 all have proven to be as stable as Hodgdon Extreme powders

Here's some temp testing I did with RL16 in my 6.5cm, will post H4350 results to compare :

RL16
-15c ~ 2694 fps
+13c ~ 2675 fps
+29c ~ 2675 fps

H4350
-15c ~ 2635 fps
+13c ~ 2622 fps
+29c ~ 2646 fps

Went out again this morning. Tried to finish my charge weights at 200 yards. Stopped at 43.2 grains as it was a heavy bolt lift and had ejector marks on the brass. Pulled the remainder.

Going to revisit 42.9 and 42.3 grains. 42.9 gave me 2856 and 42.3 got me 2828. Both groups were around 1" at 200 with 42.9 being .8 at 200.

That's a good question. Just measured 10 fired cases and compared to my trim length. They average about .008" of stretch.
Do you have any brass that you could measure the length on that were used at a lower charge to compare? You may find a charge weight where the cases grow fast. Or you might find the velocity oddly spikes up someplace on your test charges.
I run Hornady brass, H4350 and at 41.5 i run into pressure with 143ELDx.
Same brass, same powder, but at 41.1, and 140 VLD hunters, I have zero pressure problems but the are the same velocity as the ELDx.
2710fps.
24" Savage barrel.
I have a great node up at 42-42.3 with the Hornady's but its just too much for my rifle.
My VLD hunter load has room for more FPS (according to lack of pressure signs ) but it shoots too good to mess with, and my brass is happy as well. 0.003" stretch.
Most of the online loads I see that run hotter, with any powder, have good brass and usually aftermarket barrels. Not sure what you are shooting.

So a increase of 45c caused your velocity to decrease by 20fps? Yeah, physics doesn't work that way. What chronograph did you use?

A fellow at our shooting range is seeing 2650 to 2700 ft-per seconds out of his Tikka 24" 1:8 twist,,, it shoots pin-holes...

I'm launching the 140's at 2890 max out of my 6.5 A-square 25" 1:8 twist...

A 30/06 neck'ed down to 6.5...

Lapua brass
CCI LR BR primers
53.3 gr of H-1000

2800 on up seems to be a sweet spot for this rifle...

Cheers from the North
