how guns are made

Khyber Pass

It looks like pics of a "shop" in Khyber Pass, where they copy many, many firearms patterns... I've seen plenty of these "shops" in a extensive TV report back when Afghanistan was invaded by USSR.
Most of the time, the firearms have so big play than it's dangerous to shoot even when new... and some are so closely copied that even the stamps are the same...
They also make ammunitions (lots of .303 Brit) and since they have no powder plant, they use photographic films rolled into the case as a propellant (it is a good source of nitro-cellulose but produces less pressure / weight than modern powders).
Dangerous business, though...

Ah, the third world squat. Not a chair in the place.

Amazing what can be done with relatively simple tools. I am particularity impressed by the mags.

Kaskles has a post here on gunsmithing courses. He wants to be a gunsmith. Think we should take up a collection, get a couple hundred bux together, buy a refrigerator box, poke in some air holes, put some saw dust or would chips in the bottom and air express him to Pakistan? He he he he he he he. Sorry to much coffee! Rod

I wonder if Stephane Dion will be able to sign them up for the Green Shift? Their carbon emissions footprint must be massive! I think we should get together and see if we can get them to switch over from burning charcoal and camel dung to using solar energy to power their homemade forges.
