How hard are AR-15's on scopes? Do they punish and break lower end scopes (semi-auto mechanism) or are they fairly gentle on them?

They're rather gentle. Low end goods are low end regardless of what they're attached to. That being said, a relatively good optic will work fine. Bushnell comes to mind.

I have a Bushnell that I was thinking of pulling off of one of my 22's and sticking it on an AR, so that I could have the same scope on both my Evolution and AR. Make for better training on the Evolution 22.

I put a bushnell elite 3200 on my AR-15 and it has not missed a beat. Held up very well and maintains a good zero.

I'm using one of those rubber armoured Tasco 3-9 scopes with integral mounts that Colt sold with the Delta model AR15. My rifle is a flat top so the scope clamps to a riser. It has given me no problems at all. Admittedly not as sharp and bright as a more modern scope.

all depends on what you want to do. if your gun is a 1/2 moa gun and you want to shoot matches, go with an acog tsn crosshair (not the chevron) or a leupold mark 4 3.5 - 10 (or 9 can't remember) or if you got bucks buy the new nightforce 3 - 9. either way, the guide I use to buy scopes is 1/2 the value of the gun. I have a sl8 done with the hera kit and a nice mark 4. 8.5 to 25 on which is a tad big, I want to replace it with something in the 4-10 power. a couple of the shoots (one in trail) are maxed at 4 power, so you gota tape your scope off at 4.

I've never owned a bushnell but I've always believed in the addaged of "you get what you pay for" tempered by "bet you a beer you can't hit that." (note to pancakes: beer and guns do not mix well, unless you happen to be in alberta, and then only after you finished shooting.....and roll up the windows. ).
