How hard is it to kill a skunk!?!? *UPDATE: HE'S DEAD*

Skunks...

I usually chase them into a culvert - which they usually run to anyways when scared.

I then load up some #4s into 'old rusty' (old Remington 12A) that has a short barrel and no choke. Put the barrel into the culvert, pull trigger. (I wear thick leather work gloves and keep my body/face away from the opening in case some pellets bounce off the sides and come back towards the opening)

I'm not sure if they die, cause I never bothered to check, but I have never seen one come out. I figure they are either dead or deaf ;). Sometimes, you can smell 'skunk' for a few days after. As an added bonus, the culvert muffles the sound quite nicely for the neighbours, although they like it when I shoot them.

This also works good on raccoons.

Isn't that the shotgun that was pictured in the paper with all the gun's seized?

That was the very first thing I thought when I saw it....

The second thing (after reading about his prowess...) was that with a barrel that long, and a gun so "tactical" as that, it must have been really hard to miss that skunk at 25 meters.

Saw a skunk yesterday. He got in high grass before I could get to him. He entered the edge of a swamp. I followed him and when when I saw him, I put my red dot on and squeezed one shot. He moved about theree feet and sprayed the whole area. I was considering to keep the fur, right before he did that, but now it was unusable. Thinking that he may still be alive, I changed the mag and let all 25 rounds fly.

I'm still thinking about that fur. Does any of you have any experiences with skinning skunk? How do you do it, what are the spots to watch for?
You should skin the skunk and use his fur to make a little jacket for the neighborhood stray cat.

I would have loved to watch the video...sadly I can't play WAV files on my player.
Good job though dude. Read every post from beginning to end. Did you ever find out what the huge critter was that ran off? It could have been a horse..they are out and about at night.

I used to ride motorcycles back in the late 70s early 80s back when I lived in Ottawa. One night while cruising along the road through Rockliffe Park, the car in front of me hit a skunk and exploded it. I guess a tire just squished it and everything that was inside came outside. I had the joy of driving through the *mist* as it hung in the air. HOLY S#!T!!!!!!!! I was puking on the side of the road right after that. My jacket stunk for weeks after that and my jeans I simply threw away. Plus skunk stink on hot exhaust pipes smells REAAALY nice.

"I don't think you understand, these guys killed my dog, I mean chicken"

Time to get out the olde chevytac and blast it to smitherines.
