How hard is it to kill a skunk!?!? *UPDATE: HE'S DEAD*

Actually I've already tried both. I liked the 2000 but the P90 isn't something I'd get into unless the ammo becomes common around here.

My Walther G22 is very picky about ammo. Doesn't like stingers or velociters or whatever. Likes the standard velocity copper washed federal stuff the best.

So, is it too much to expect a deadly shot at 25m with 000 buck and full choke out of a 30" barrel?? I've never patterned it or anything.
Yes it is too much to expect if you haven't patterned the gun or sighted it in at that distance.

Large buckshot often leaves holes in the pattern large enough to not deliver a solid hit to a small varmint. I use #4 Buck and keep distances short.

Skunks aren't hard to kill. They are hard to hit with any gun that you haven't sighted in properly or if you are using shot that leaves gaps in the pattern large enough for them to sneak through.

What Do You Hunt With That "thing"?? Buffalo ?
Around My Place The Skunks Have A Definite Dislike For 22 Magnums. One Well Placed Shot Will Flatten Him On The Spot.
Ps: Stay Upwind!!

Usually pumpkins and watermelons, 2L pop bottles, the such. It's never shot at anything alive until now.

I'll see how the .22LR does tonight. A .17HMR is looking better by the min ;)

I conducted some tests patterning a cylinder 12ga. At 25yds I was amazed that the pattern would not even suffice for a deer.... and I shot 00 buck.

#4 buck or BBs are the biggest one I'd use, but I think any #2 and #4 would be better.

Still not sure why you didn't use the 22LR, since it's a semi and you can put 4-5 shots in the head area before she skunk knows what's happining.

Well, I tried to go out and buy a dedicated skunk killing setup:

Savage .17HMR, 5 shot bolt action, Stainless bull barrel, free float, thumb hole stock, with a silver Bushnell 3200 3-9x40 scope with lit reticle.

But, the transfer was kicked to the province. So, guess it'll be the trusty Walther G22 for tonight.

If you couldn't kill a skunk with a 12 gauge maybe you should stay home. Having a "tactical" shotgun isn't enough, even if it has the "poly choke"lol You need to pattern it any mall ninja knows that.:D

I can guarantee that trapping a skunk and disposing elsewhere is by far the best option. Blasting away after dark with a high capacity, tactical, a 12ga sounds a bit Darwinian to me, plus there's the smell factor left to deal with.

My family home was a mink farm in close proximity to a small town, so we saw no end of those B&W critters. Instead of shooting them on the farm site, my father trapped them with a HAVEaHEART live trap and shot them (with a 22LR) elsewhere. Trick is to cover the trap with a burlap bag so the skunk does not spray.

Of course, you could always empty the mag of your high capacity, ninja shotty while the poor critter is confined in the trap, pretty much guaranteeing a confirmed kill, and giving the opportunity for pics of the trophy (instead of the shotgun). :onCrack: :D

......... or with any firearm for that matter!

Shooting after dark is just plain dangerous, illegal, and stoopid. :slap:
