How hard is the steel on the 858 sights ?

I want to drill my rear sight to install some tritium dots but if it's the same steel as the bolt, that's a no-go: this thing was way to hard to drill.
Is it possible with conventional tools ?

-NEA fiber sights-

Metal is not hardened, easy to drill. One thing you're going to want to consider through is that the tritium vials need to be shielded by 1mm min of metal all around to prevent them from being damaged. The vials are quite soft and if they break, you just tossed out your money... There's not a lot of real estate on there, but if you're handy with a TIG you could easily add enough material.

With a NEA front fiber optic post just set the rear sight to the 2 setting and squeze.
P.S. I wish I had the NEA front sight but they released it after I made my own.

Thanks,

I have the fiber optic sights coming but it doesn't help for dark conditions.
Tritium vials are cheap enough to give it a try.
I'm thinking, just a post under the notch (like XS sights) and a dot below the fiber optic. I think i'll try with the original sights first before drilling the fiber optic ones.

Get the AK-47 model.

It required modding the front elevation drum on my CZ 858 but besides that it was preaty much plug and play. Although the elevation marking's were all incorrect.

wait a second ! I thought someone told me that AK sights don't fit VZ
how did you make it fit?
Rear sight's wasn't a problem. It was the front sight post. The thread's are different so I had to take the ak front sight drum and carefully grind away matterial tell it fit nice and snug. With a dremel it took hour's!
