How hot might the barrel get firing 10 shots in a minute or so?
Could you have JB Weld in direct contact with a barrel?

I have a Norc .308 and need to do some tweaking of the fit on rail scope mount.
It seems the barrel shoulder is of larger diameter than the rail is made for and when mounted the best the scope can adjust is 4" low of the point of impact at 50 yds.
I have a couple of metal shims in now to get where it needs to be but because the rail contacts on 3 points (shoulder and one either side of the gas port) the shims need to be different thicknesses meaning you would do a fair amount of trial and error fitting to get things right without flexing of the rail as you tighten it down.

JB Weld would be the fastest with no chance of it working it's way out if it can handle the heat. I think it's good to 500f.

10 shots in a minute isn't that fast, but the barrel will get hot enough to burn your hand if you touch it.
"...larger diameter than the rail is made for..." Likely the wrong rail. 50 is too close anyway, but the shots will be even lower at 100. Read some of the 'scoping an M305/M14S/M1A' posts.

We set fire to a forestock of a FNC1 once. It was a lot of rounds, using the C2 mag, the gun was already subject to go in as it was already screwed.

Jb weld is a variation of epoxy, epoxy is used regularly to modify port size in 2 stroke engines. The heat is no issue at all for your use.

Thanks for the replies.
I read ALL the posts(here and elsewhere) on M14 scope mounts before I did anything.
I haven't heard anyone else complaining about the fit of the UTG rail so I'm going to be kind and assume it's something with the profile of the barrel.
At any rate, this ought to fix things up to my satisfaction.
I may just take it down to the range and measure the barrel temp before proceeding further.

EDIT
Test results:
Baseline temp 40f
25 rounds in a couple of minutes, temp 160f
