how is a hk p7 restricted?

I handled one the other day at TSE.
Nice gun to hold, good feel, has a bit
of weight to it. Pricey tho, I heard they
are no longer in production, maybe that's why.

I waited more than a decade to get my P7. Then I got one of the ex-Poleizi guns that came in through TSE and were being sold for about $800 or so.

I'm not sure of the exact price as it came into my possession via a fairly convoluted route that didn't involve the exchange of any cash. :)

Anyway, I'm not giving it up EVER. It is by far my favourite handgun.

As for my opinion on them... These are the best handguns on the market. Why do I say that? A handgun is a last ditch weapon, it should be compact, extremely accurate, and able to be put into use instantly. It doesn't need to be able to fire 300 rounds in a string (though the P7 will, it just gets very hot), so I do not see the P7's heating up as an issue to me. The P7 is insanely accurate, very compact, and the best pointing handgun I've fired.

Not imx. More than is usual in a similar weight gun in fact. The barrel is fixed, and the gas-retarded mechanism doesn't seem to take the energy out of the slide to the extent that a Browning-type mechanism does.

That's one of the reasons I've never been overly keen on the P7. The other reason why is I don't like the magazine release.

They are neat pistols though. Very accurate because of the fixed barrel.

Hi Maxim,

I know you bought a new P7 recently, did this happen to you? I was fortunate in that P7M8 Jubilee and the P7M13 I got new recently did not go through this restricted / prohib classification. They just came from the seller (new) as restricted.

P7 is very fast.
Short sharp recoil very similar to Glock Model 19 (both are short barrel 9mm). However P7 feels a bit heavier in hand but has a lighter trigger pull and supreme accuracy.

I'm not saying they are equals, just saying, recoil seems about the same (to me) on both.

Excellent quality and accuracy on P7

Most bang for the buck on Glock

Both similar in size

Both will do the job
 
I received my P7 PSP about a week ago. Wow what a great little pistol.
I compared it to my S&W 5946 (on long term loan :D). The p7 is smaller than my prohibited pistol.

The P7: Unique, very handy pistol with a great trigger and sight picture. Unique engineering. This alone made me want one. Plus German engineering.

The only disadvantages were the heat after extended shooting, the 8 round mags, and the mag release (although it wasn't bad once I got use to it).

On a side note the sights on mine need to be adjusted. The pistol shoots 3 inches to the left. Forntunately I have a tool to adjust that.
Once I realized what was going on, I was able to hit the small metal targets at 50 yards with this pistol. It's very accurate and very nice too shoot. The recoils is higher than some but no big deal.

I'm very happy with my purcahse.
Thanks to Walt at Arms East (now if only my Stag 2T arrives soon :p)

I've heard rumours that the P7 was in the running for the RCMP contract however the cost made it uncompetitive.
