How is a Martini 577-.450 Classed by CFC?

Is a Martini .450 single required to be registered or not?

Not if it was made prior to 1898. They are antiques.

All .450-577's should are old enough to be antique. Newer .303 Martini-Metford or Matini-Enfields, and all the .22 Target or Cadet rifles are firearms.

This is what I thought however. I made the mistake of registering it.

Do uou think that their is any chance of having it deregistered?

I bought one that was registered. I phoned the Registry and they deregistered it and sent me a letter saying it was now deregistered along with the parts of the law showing it is and antique and not needing registry.
Give the Registry a call and it should be done over the phone. They just look it up on the FRT.

Can't believe that they would go ahead and register it knowing it is not a registerable rifle! They would have saved themselves the work od de-registering it. Who knows how their minds work. I don't know how many people have stories of registering nail guns, pellet guns, staplers and all manor of thing. Its just data entry clerks answering the phone.

There are some around but you have to be willing to part with some cash especially if it's a Canadian or British marked one....legit. They do get some peoples attention when at the range. Dave

Martinis in 577/450 were made after 1898. Westley Richards was still making MH 577/450s for the Boers in 1898 and delivered the last of them in Aug. 1899. Westley Richards still listed 577/450 Martinis in 1912 brand new.

The British Army issued Martinis have the manufacture date stamped right on them, easy enough for even a CFC emplyee to figure out.

Not hard to find, P&S have 7 listed for sale. BTW the antique status ones are all .450 necked down from .577 hence the 577/450. There are none in 577 (those would be the snider enfields).

You should do some research here on reloading the 577/450 and if your comfortable with doing that, get one.
