How is everyone doing on their controlled hunts so far? I head out tomorrow afternoon and hopefully shoot a buck.

Out yesterday and was excited to have snow and see some tracks...no tracks and no deer seen unfortunately. Did see a bald eagle on my way home though. That's what I love about hunting...even when you don't get what you're after you never leave with nothing :)

Sounds like you had a good time. I too saw a bald eagle during the gun hunt last month. It was the first time I have seen one in the wild in Ontario.

I saw nothing but tracks yesterday. Tried again this morning and tagged a lone fawn. I'm glad I got a chance to use my tag. Beautiful weather in 81b this morning.

Good luck to all those still trying. Persistents pays off, keep at it.

That's my WMU too. Congratulations on the fawn. They are calling for "significant" snow Thurs in to Fri. Sounds like I may be hunting in a snowstorm.

I had two does localized to a hydro cut at the back of our farm. Went out a couple times before gun week with my bow and got busted by them, already in the field when I walked out.

Gun week 3rd day (first day hunting cause of work) I went out early afternoon, like 2pm. Knew I'd have to wait so I sat leaning against a tree at the edge of the cut, and had a nap. Woke at 3, listened then stood watch. Close to 4 shadows were spreading, gonna be dark soon, almost time to head in. Heard a snap behind me in the woods. Leaned out from the tree at low ready, another snap, and a 4 pointer walks out from behind a bush 25 yds away. Waited for him to relax and drop his head, took a bead an inch behind his mid upper leg, and put one straight in the boiler room.

Surprised he took off considering the two inch hole through his lungs. My Lurcher dog (apparently a natural bloodhound) went straight to him, in the dark by the time I got him on the trail. Deer went 75 yards downhill. Made for a workout dragging him out.

My first deer, after many seasons of trying. Git the Mennonites making me summer sausage from the trim.

After several years of eating "tag soup" I was thankful to harvest a mature doe this morning in WMU 81A. The clear sky this morning was a welcome change from the snow & wind yesterday. I felt optimistic walking to my stand this morning. As if on cue, the turkeys started yelping and a Great Horned owl started hooting as the first streak of dawn blazed across the sky. When the does headed my way...was I ever ready.

I got a surprise when field dressing the doe...her udder was full of milk. I would have thought her fawns would have been weaned by now. She came out with 2 other does...definitely not yearlings.

Congratulations! It sounds like you had a great afternoon.

The weather forecast for my trip calls for 5-15cm of snow every 6-12 hours in 81B. This is going to be quite the hunt!

Saw lots monday and tuesday, but they were skiddish from being pushed on the neighboring property and kept their distance, so no shot on any of them. Gotta work the rest of the week then try again on saturday. They are there, but they're not stupid.

Just as I was getting into my car 1 buck and 2 does crossed the road. I had just packed my gear in and it was 30 minutes after official dark, so I had to watch they walk away... I have been seeing allot of does around, but this is the first buck I have seen so far.

In the controlled hunt, if group size is limited to 4 and each member has to have one buck tag, can more than four animals be taken?
I'm a new land owner in 76A and would like to know if I can expand our opportunities.

92B, for a group <a club of guys who hunt the area, within regs>, 3 does, 5 bucks; mid hundreds to low 200lbs. Group size seems to be increasing since the core guys have had success and some are now bringing relations on drives. Lots of sign and we are still chasing "the monster" tracks at a run in freshly worked fields are near the width of a size 12.

Think what happens is multiple groups of 4 join to make larger groups .....I've seen as many as 20 guys heading out to do pushes in our area.
