How is everyone's spring bear going?

A nice spot and stalk black bear in the Kitimat BC area. Sorry for the picture quality. Was alone and losing light and in a hurry. Didn't realize it was blurry till i got home.

now that's an impressive yukon/northern BC laker . How are you getting the freighter to slow troll? I always found my freight to be a
little quick trolling. just about to pull the trigger on another HB frighter with a 20hp suzuki

I don't worry about trying to slow it down, usually 2.5 - 3.5 mph. Catch as many as the other guys doing their slow troll, and I cover much more area in the same time.

I managed to take my first black bear last weekend up in northern Ont. Not huge, but a nice boar. Plenty of meat and a great coat. Was thinking of doing the hide (skull out) on my own. Anyone have any tips on either using alum or the orange deer hunter formula they sell at Cabelas?

Yikes! I know it is considered uncool to criticize other hunters' "style" but for such a large group to hit an area like that just doesn't make sense to me.

To me the ideal hunting group is two people. Four works too if you like doing things in pairs. Personally I like to hunt alone and meet up back at camp in the evening. But 30 hunters in one camp with the usual trucks and quads? Sounds more like a party, an excuse to get away from the wife and hang and drink in a gang, not hunting. But I know there are two European-based groups in Vancouver that do that.

Spent three days in a likely spot where I've been lucky before.

Only saw one very fast streak of a bear. Very little sign compared to previous few years even near thick roadside and powerline clover. Then a road builder told us that a huge party of about 30 hunters and associated trucks and quads from a Vancouver gun club had thoroughly covered the area over the Victoria day long weekend.

Spring season is over for me without success. Our group of 4 pulled out two small bears though, so at least there is some tasty meat!

Now hopefully the fall season will be better weather and more bears.

Season in my region ends next Saturday. Going to go out Friday night/Saturday for one last try, haven't so much as seen a bear this year but haven't gotten out much. I'm going to try to get out Tuesday or Wednesday after work to sit in a glassing spot that's not too far from home, if I see something there I'll be going there Friday, if I don't it'll be back to Harrison.

Bagged my big boy, spent 5 more days looking but nothing but sows and small bears... Season is open until end of June but Tuesday I leave for a month of muskie and pike fishing in onterrible. The second bear will have to wait until fall.

I combined walleye fishing with the bear hunting... the best of both worlds... the fish fryer was going twice a day, every day!

no fishing, no bear hunting, no mushroom picking for me this year..... might even have to miss the fall season too.
If I could deer hunt off my deck I'd be doing all right but the CO's kinda frown on that kinda thing haha
sux to be broken so I'm living vicariously through all of you guys and trying to avoid the wheelchair till I get MRI results.

I was out this weekend and got this nice male blackie with a brown coat with my 8x57. Good eating bear.
