How is rimfire ammo made?

There are different systems, often a paste is spun into the rim, then dried. The Eley system is very clever, in that the priming compound does not become activated until after it has been placed in the rims. Priming compounds can be very tricky to handle.

That is a GREAT article.
I love the quote:
"They also determined that the presence of lead oxide in a bullet was a primary cause of "detached shots" (what non-engineers call "flyers") because of differential resistance to passage through the bore. So TenEx bullet material is fabricated in an oxygen-free atmosphere and lubed with a soft tallow/beeswax material, the same lube Eley used 150 years ago; most modern bullet lubes are paraffin-based, which is harder."

There was a thread a while ago that got into "why all decent target ammo has waxy lubricant". This sort of explains it.

Hey Shorty thanks for the link - greatly appreciated

You wouldn't happen to be the guy sitting in IRC #linux-help saying RTFM over and over would ya? ;)
