looking at the cabela's Tactical Multi Turret Scopes – Big Game: 3-12SF x 40mm. Cat. No. 623058.
im looking to put this on a 30-06 mauser98 i had sported.its not a show queen its a second/backup hunting rifle i bring in trips.if you have/seen on of these scopes and want to tell the pros and cons that would be great.

I've only known one guy who had one. His verdict was the scope was crap. Check out a Zeiss Conquest. They're the same price as a Leupold. Or if you really need to buy cheaper consider a Burris. They're a good simple hunting scope.

The cheapest I would go on a big game hunting rifle (be it backup or not) would probably be an entry-level Bushnell. The price is about the same as the Cabela's stuff, maybe slightly higher, but I've looked through some at Cabela's and they're no good.

I think that the Bushnell 3200 in a 3-9, that sells for $214.00 at P&D in Edmonton is the very best bang for the scope buying dollar right now. This price will rise by about 10% or so in the weeks to come. FS

I have one on my 243 rem 700 and it has served that gun well the past 2 years, its not a ziess or leupold but it works of for that gun. It tracks ok and teh MOA elevation seems to be right on out to 300 yards, I have not shot that particular one farther.

To be honest I have a few high end scopes, and I am one for optics, and really the clairity is not that bad on the Cabelas Tactical scopes?

I would not put it on my BR target rifle or take it the interior B.C on a sheep hunt, but for wacking Gophers in a farm fiedls on a Varmint rifle its just fine!

You didn't put that on your 5R did you? :p J/K

I have two of the Cabelas Pine Ridge scopes and they're both great! I put the 3-12X40 rimfire BDC turret on my old Cooey60 with a Weaver side mount. The 40gr turret shoots a few inches low @ 200 yds with the scope properly zeroed @ 100.

The second is the Big Game 6-18X40 on my .270. I originally ordered the 3-12X40 but since it was backordered I opted for the longer one, and I'm glad I did. The image is not quite as sharp as the 3-12, but still clear enough to accurately count tines on a moose @ 400 yd.

The duplex reticles in both scopes are absolutely tack sharp. Winding the turrets up/dn L/R with the rifle in a vise produced no change in zero, nor did tapping the scope after making adjustments.

My only complaint is that the Owner's Manual does not explain the operation of the side parallax adjustment. It is not a focus knob as the ad suggests. Focus is accomplished by adjusting the occular lens. The knob simply makes the reticle appear to be at the same distance as the target, thereby reducing the error caused by not having ones eye in exactly the same place from one shot to the next.

Five stars in my books.
Just my humble opinion.

I bought the .17hmr calibrated scope . It's alright , decent glass , magnification knob is a bit hard to turn and eye piece knob is gritty. As mentioned don't pay full price , these go on sale often .

I've used a Centre-point scope for several years now, its a 4-12 with the AO. I have it on a braked .308

Three deer, plenty of target shooting. I've printed several sub moa groups with it.
It's tough as heck, and keeps zero bang-on but will shift zero slightly through the magnification range.

Typically anything that will keep a zero on an airgun will withstand even braked rifles, excepting sudden failure with the Chinese sweatshop labour factor.

Had one in my hands. Didn't seem like a bad scope for the money. Lots of features. Glass not on par with Leupold of Zeiss, but that's to be expected. Started talking with the guy behind the counter, and he mentioned the best part is the Cabela's has a one year warranty on their scopes. I've been down that road before, so I just handed the scope back to him and went on my way. Better to save a little longer, and spend a little more, than to piss away money on a scope that's only warranteed for a year.
