his is a pic of one of my favorite IDPA stages ever, and I normally hate pick-up guns in a match. You started kneeling next to James Bond giving him CPR. At the buzzer you grab his suppressed Glock 17 and engage the 3 threat targets with two to the body and one to the head. Then drop his now empty gun (it was only loaded with 9 rounds) grab your pistol and head downrange to sort out the rest of the stage. The walls and targets in the background are part of another stage.

The look on peoples faces when shooting the G-17 was priceless. Over half though it had jammed due to the complete lack of recoil and noise. As they were shooting their pistol later in that same stage, the shooter had muffs/plugs so it was incredibly quiet for the shooter. After the match everyone was able to say the got to shoot a silenced handgun.

After the match some people just hung out and shot up the rest of the ammo I had loaded for it.

It is a G-17 with a Bar-Sto barrel and an AAC Evolution9 can. The shooter is an Army Soldier just home from Iraq.

oh dare to dream we could do that up here

Well, the silencer is out obviously

Actually I've seen many a reference to silencers being illegal in the US as well. Perhaps they had a LEO in attendence that officially owned it?

Either way the idea of a pickup gun would add some spice to an IPSC or IDPA stage.

They are legal if you live in a state where they are legal l(I think there are 17 of them) as well as the silencer must be registered with the BATF...ie: you can't make your own, THAT is illegal.

This kids family owns a machine shop in the US, and as a hobby he makes his own AR lowers and of course, his own 22 silencer, he explains how it is legal to do so as long as you fill out the proper BATF forms and pay the taxes. For proof, here's the link.He explains all the numerous forms that are required, including fingerprints.
