How lame is this...

I have to again get this in stone tomorrow. For some reason there are people (CFC included) that think that you cannot de-prohibit .32 or .25acp handguns. However there is nowhere in the legislation that states this... only what makes a firearm prohibited or restricted.

The verifier will have to fill out form CAFC 804, maybe send in a picture of two to the techs and there shouldn't be a problem as far as I can see. There are FRT #'s for non restricted PPK's which as far as I know must have been conversions. Did they make a PPK in 380 with 106, 107, or 112mm barrels? These would have to be aftermarket from what I understand.

Could a verifier verify their own firearms? Or must another verifier do this?

The barrel would be aftermarket, yes and I know of a few places that make them ( In Canada).

Hope this works. Did another transfer today... CFC told me the same, as long as a verifier verifies the new caliber and barrel change, it's okay.

Where did this 'rule' or 'rumor' stem from? I can't find anything on CFC's website or here on CGN.

GOOD NEWS

After a morning of battles, one girl at Miramichi said that as long as the barrel length AND caliber were changed (If caliber was prohibited) to restricted IE .380 barrel of the appropriate length, then the pistol must be verified and then I can take possession of it!!

Awesome!

Good for you. :)

Has anybody actually ever killed anybody with a .25 anyways???

Apparently, when the US gummint was looking at gun control some years back, it turned out that MOST killings had been done by .25s and .32s. They were the smallest and easiest to conceal. So the US outlawed importing them (or whatever they did ) and our ever-so-original-and-independent gummint outlawed them altogether.

But the US ban was time-limited. Ours wasn't. :bangHead:

Sorry, I can't remember where I read this.

I just took my 12(6) PPK in .32 out of the safe for a cuddle. I think I'll take it out this week to shake the dust off of it. Maybe even use the ankle hoslter I got from Fobus years ago (probably the worst holster design ever).

Kick to the nuts of Slavex**

I'm still getting mixed opinions. If the CFC can prove to me in our legislation that this is legally not allowed, then I will give it a rest. Until then, I'm not settling for their ignorance. They work for me, not the other way around. They will serve the public right to the exact letter of the law.

Of all times, why now do they have to be turds!?

Get a gunsmith to do it and have him call in for verification. They are less likely to argue with a certified gunsmith.
sstoller is a 'smith on the board who seems to be able to do it.

Hey Slavex

I we put both our PPK's together will they reproduce?

I love the 12.6 envy from the have nots:)

LOL

sstoller? The search function says there's no such name..

The verdict is in.

Fail.

I talked to a gentleman and he said while they didn't make the rules, a particular 'overlooked' rule is in Section 84 of the Criminal Code.

He said it gives the definition of a prohib as A) Barrel equal or less than 105mm and B) DESIGNED or adapted to fire .32acp or .25acp

So, since the PPK in question was DESIGNED to fire either of the evil calibers, it doesn't matter what you do to change the caliber, it was DESIGNED to fire it, thus still making it a prohibited weapon.

Lame.

EDIT:

Oh, and he said that this doesn't stop CFC from tracking back the records to all prohib cal-restricted cal conversions that were done while this current rule was in effect. The frame was designed to fire .32 and .25 from the fac, therefore making it legally prohibited.

ALL CONVERSION OWNERS BEWARE!!!

so how does the CFC explain the restricted .32s that are out there?

if our PPKs could mate I'd hope they'd pump out a nice stainless .32 that would be sweet.

He mentioned that there were a few given exceptions Slavex, but the PPK isn't one of them.
