How long can I expect to wait before I can take my handgun home?

I am still waiting on my RPAL to come in the mail but say I get it tomorrow:

If I go into the shop and pick out a gun, how long would I have to wait before I can actually take it home?

Once they OK the transfer, how long would I have to wait for an ATT to take it from the shop to home? Can I have it faxed?

My range also wont endorse long term ATT's untill I've gone thru the 3 month probation period.

Can I still call and get temporary ATT's to take my gun to the range while waiting for my probation to finish?

I've recieved too much unreliable information from friends on all these questions so I thought I would ask here.

I'm not sure if this applies universally throughout Canada but when I bought my 1911 I had it home within 24 hours. I went to the store on a monday afternoon and purchased the pistol. After the transfer was done I was given a receipt with a reference number. The next day at about noon I called the CFO and asked for the temporary ATT to be faxed to the gun shop when it was done. She put me on hold for a minute then came back on the line to inform me that it was sent and that my long term ATT is in the mail. That easy.
 
Any time from 2 days to 3 weeks in Ontario. Its a guessing game. Some prohibs are taking up to 4-5 weeks?
Pretty hard to run a check on us I guess, ya right its a frikkin joke if you call the CFO it seams like they were greasing the squeeky wheel but not sure if that stands either today.
I did 2 at the same time same store one took 2 days the other 1 1/2 weeks?
 
I have had as short a wait time as 5 business days after purchase it was mailed and at my door. I have also waited 4 weeks.....it was the start of hunting season, NEVER AGAIN!
 
Your transfer time depends entirely on Orillia's backlog. Sometimes it is one day, sometimes more.

I have a transfer in process for an Ontario Customer right now.
It was handed to the Ontario CFO for approval on the 29th and not approved yet.
 
Seems to be about 24hours if you're an Alberta resident buying in Alberta. I find that Ontario almost always seems to take the longest, when I am selling to people there.
 
It seems a lot also depends on the store you purchase from. Some stores (like one I know in Toronto) will not be overly helpful. Others will phone and fax and try everything they can to help that they possibly can do.
While many stores are slaves to waiting, others can push things a bit if they feel like it.

As everyone said it's a crap shoot could be 2 days or 4 weeks... Also depends on how many you've bought , how recently you've bought and if you have anything in your file or new items in your file... I had 5 on the go at once all started within days of each other... Got 3 at once from one FO about 4 days the other 2 took another 2 weeks.

Yes they can fax it to the shop some shops will actually ask for it to be faxed when they make the request.

Probably not.. You should ask your range why they want you to wait to bring your own guns... Short term ATT's are pain to get to go shooting and you should expect to have to request them a week to 10 days in advance...

Took me a grand total of 3 hrs.The gun store owner said i was from out of town and asked them if they could do it quickly and surprise they did.
 
My friend was at Hunters in surrey last week and he picked up his AR-15 (restricted) in 20 minutes. Fastest the store has ever seen. CFO called the store back and asked to speak with my friend and told him he would have his papers in 10 minutes. The first half of the 20minutes was from the store filing and calling in the papers. :D :D

It was approved yesterday. So expect 6 business days right now.

I'm surprised at the lenth of time it takes in some areas. I had looked at some pistols in P&D in Edmonton a few weeks before and I called the gunshop at around 9:30 am, told them what I wanted and gave them my RPAL number. I picked up the P226 at 11:30 am with the tempory ATT. When I picked it up they said they had it by 11:00 am. The lady at the till that called in the request did say it was the fastest reply she had seen. I have had my RPAL since they came out but this was my first restricted firearm.
