Getting an itch to hunt now!!!

My younger brother and I were talking about my other brother and a buddy that want to join us again this year for a deer hunt. We had a good laugh thinkin back to a couple years ago. Ive been hunting for about 12 years now, and these 2 are fairly new to it.

My grandfather, who's hunted all his life mentioned in passing that if we get cold to walk ahead or 4-wheeler back to the house. Maybe even make a fire if we get really cold. It doesnt get cold enough to warrant that anymore, I can only remember having a fire once about 10 years ago when we lit a cedar stump on fire cause, god it was cold and we were a long way from home. Anyways... we head out before light, get all setup, everyone in position... then at about 7:00am i can smell a fire...lol... my younger brother was watching him running around the bush gathering s**t for a fire, and had it going before the sun even came up! He was all over the bush for most of the weak, thinking he heard something or checking stuff out. Then of course 3 deer somehow manage to end up within 30 yards of him after all the commotion. Took three shots with a shotgun at close range, managed to kill a tree, a rock and another tree. He called us over to help him look for blood. haha, what an entertaining morning. I dont know if its a lack of patience or what but the next morning at about 8:00 he was walking over to meet me. People are funny to watch....

Just wondering how long you guys deer hunt for, all day? Move around much or are ya's pretty still? Ive been accused of not moving enough, like thats possible....

from 5:30 am until 10:00-10:30 then we take a lunch break and go back for about 1:00- sundown.(6:00) Makes for a long day. I always say you can't get your deer from your livingroom couch. (at least I can't) The coldest morning I had was -16c at 5:30 a.m. I was up in my stand until 9:00am only to see one lonely female. My buddy gave up at 7:00am and went to the car to warm up until I came down. My feet were so cold I thought I had frostbite every step I took was like walking on broken glass. That day I almost gave up the afternoon portion of the hunt. I'm glad that I found the courrage to continue because there at 3:00 came my beautiful 5 point buck.:runaway:

I'm in the stand before sun-up and stay til 10:00-11:00. Meet for lunch on the main trail. Back up in the stand by 2 and stay til dark.

It works for us. Last year I shot a doe at 8:00 am and my buddie shot a spike in the las 10 min. of the day. That was opening day, short trip.

The third guy in our party can't sit for more then 30 min. He's the guy who has to have the latest greatest gadgets and he is the only on that hasn't got his deer yet.

I'm the same as Jose and smacdonald, I sit usually on the ground in a good spot form before light(out here in November around 7:30) and come in for ;unch around 10:30 or 11:00 maybe take a drive around for a while and then back to my afternoon spot about 2:30 until after dark.

Your story about your brother is funny, one of the guys we hunt with for whitetail is like that, he can't sit still, he can't shoot when he gets excited either, he's always shooting a doe in the ass. A great solution for Ray is a ground blind(setup believe it or not in the middle if a power line on top of a hill) or let him run around on the quad. He may not kill many deer, but at least he will be hunting.

The Biggest Muley I've taken was right at Noon when everyone else was eating lunch ! :p
If Time allows I usually Hunt ALL DAY;)
I prefer the "Spot & Stalk" approach vs "sitting" but do that too on occasion.

I hunt hard until I fill my tag.First one up and out of the camp.I come back around the time everybody else is making breakfast. We do a few drives thenI am back out till dark myself. Its worked well for me as I have never got skunked in deer season(knock on wood).

if i am alone i start at around 6 am and move till my leg throbs so muc hthe advil wont help then stop for an hour or 3 and then move again till sunset

u lucky buggers i have too many chores to hunt all day long lol. i usually go either a couple hours in the morning or a couple hours in the evenin. and ive never got a moose/deer so their ya have it. lol proof that u cant get anything unless ur out their!!

2 of 6 go out before dark and come back after, the rest of us in before daylight, out around 11:30 and back in at 1:00 till dark. No movement once you are on your stand.
