Just wondering how long people sit in the deer stand for. Also how long before daylight do you get into your stand? We usually try to get into our stand about 1 hour before legal shooting time. Then we will usually shut er' down and climb down about the 10 a.m. mark, give or take a few minutes. Does anyone sit longer or less. I wouldnt mind sitting longer, if (A): it will pay off, and (B): my arse doesnt numb up and I get all jittery and wanna stand. I have a portable and not too much into standing cuz I cant stand REAL still long enough.

I'm, usually, in my various treestands well before daylight , giving the animals time to settle down after my trip into the treestand area .
I don't(again usually) leave 'till after shooting light fails in the evening .
I have no problem with my "arse getting numb" because I can walk around in my 8 x 8 shooting shack .
I have missed some great animals by having to leave around noon .

The above shack is fully insulated and heated with a wood burning stove ...comfy . I haven't shot any deer from the shack but sure do see lots...up to 30 at one time .
I shot a 9-pointer from a ground blind 2 weeks ago ...first buck with a black powder rifle .
Was only there for one hour...but we knew at what time they entered the field to feed .
Ps. those farm-fed, pre-rut bucks are sure tasty .

I remember watching a Jim Shockey episode and he sat something like 23 days in the same stand waiting for this monster whitetail.
Myself I can't sit much more then an hour and I feel like walking/stalking.

Cheers!!

Get there just before legal shooting time and sit for 3hr and same for the afternoon. We get to go back to the cabin for warm lunch. Half of out stands have a roof over the head so rain or snow is not an issue. The key is to keep yourself warm and not to fall asleep.

I have seen the most action from 09:00 - 10:30 in the morning, and my share of nice bucks at noon during the rut. And also 15:30 - 17:00
The worst, Day break-09:00 , 11:00-12:00 , and 13:00-15:00 when the rut is not on, and sometimes even when it is. :)

I don't like getting to my stand too early (sitting there and maybe seeing a deer I legally should not shoot is not something I want to be tested with). However I did once and right at legal light a nice buck walked out and I got him.

I sometimes set up tow tree stands a couple hundred yards to 1/2 mile apart. Then I sit in one a couple or three hours and get down and move to the other for another couple hours. Then back to my truck that is hopefully parked with a good view and warm up and have some hot soup from my thermos. More than once, I have seen bucks walking by when I'm in the truck in mid Nov.
