How long for a 25

Opcx6
Only advise I could mention to new shooters is make sure your feet are right before calling for bird, to many shooters have there feet towards house and run out of swing make your feet comfortable to where you will shoot bird.
I was shooting at Ottawa Trap & Skeet many years ago and ended 12ga event with 99/100 tied with Barney Hartman there was no shoot off they counted the longest run to determine winner. I won but never really considered it a win. I will tell you Barney was a amazing shooter one of the very best skeet shooters of all time

Must have been an experience shooting against the likes of Barney Hartman. I have read his book and noticed he spent a great deal of time mapping out the various foot positions at various stations. I actually found this a bit confusing and hard to remember, especially at the line. His approach, at least in my mind, contrasts quite strongly with Todd Bender's approach (I bought his DVD on skeet.) in which a fairly standard position is shot from and emphasis is placed on appropriate weight distribution between the feet and ensuring movement is in the legs rather than the torso. I have wondered (respectfully) if Hartman was an upper body shooter? From reading his records no one would doubt he was extremely skilled.

My first 25 straight was 6 months into starting this game. then came my 50, 75, 100, 125, 150, 175, 200. that is at 16 yards. It becomes more of challang the further back you get. Then again if I could constitly shoot 100 straight at 27 yards then I would be traveling all over canada and the United States shooting compitisions.

Congrats! A couple of us pistol shooters have been going out lately and someone made the remark "y'know we could save some money if we just went to an open field, yelled 'pull' and fired our guns in the air".....

*laughing*

This is how I feel ... last week my FB status was "Shooting trap tonight ... don't worry - no clay birds will be harmed in the process..." :p However I did manage to hit 8 which was kind of a big deal for me! :D

Thanks for all the great advice on this thread. I appreciate it!

I've been at it for a year and a half. Not a long time by any means. I regularly hit 22-23, with the odd 24, but no 25 yet. It's my goal by the end of the summer. There's always something stupid to throw you off.

Well, I finally did it:dancingbanana:! I've shot a few straights in trap, but I shot my first 25 in skeet today during practice:D. It was just a really solid, great feeling all the way through. Bit of a panic on #5 high house when I got too far ahead of the bird and slowed my gun, got behind, then picked up again and nailed a big chip out of the back end. Shooting #8 was hairy too, especially the two shots on the low house. I'd missed number 8 high house and number 5 high house on the first round too, which put me at 23 for the round. What a great feeling to finally shoot a perfect round:)!!! Took about 2 1/2 years.

Must be the Moon phase because I did it on Saturday on our big annual father's day shoot. Beat out the big guns by one target with a 19 and the 25!

Not near a nervous as my first 25 in handicap.

Grant

So you can teach an old dog new tricks or you are not an old dog? CONGRATULATIONS:dancingbanana:

Did someone have the decency to shoot your hat?:D

No one shot my hat, but I got my hand shook. I was wearing my "Bite me" hat from Alaska. The shot marks would go right along with the bear claw marks...:) All good fun...Fred

took about a year and a half for me to shoot my first 25 trap, but then it was 99 in singles followed by a 99 in handicap, missing my very last bird. Never had a day like that since. BTW, the last bird was an "easy" "streight away" off post three.

I like the just here to look pretty and make noise, the bird is already dead thought, will have to try it.

Say what you like about 'easy' but guys miss straightaways all the time here. One can't escape the feeling that they are a 'gimme' but they aren't. Go figure...fred
