Hi guys. I just transfered the registration on a handgun into my name and the lady at the CFC said that it would have to be sent to the CFO for approval before it was officially registered in my name. She said it would take 10-15 days. As I understand it, I need a registration number for an ATT so that I can pick it up, right? I was hoping to pick it up next week since the handgun is about 4 hours away and I'm going through there anyway. Is that possible? Anyway I can speed up the process? Thanks.

ETA: The handgun is in Sask. Am I going to need an ATT from both AB and SK, or just the one the AB CFO issues?

As far as I know just the one ATT from your home province. ATT's are usually issued automatically when a transfer is initiated. At least I have always found that I get an ATT without having to apply separately. Of course since I live in ONT the rules may be different that where you are.

My recent restricted transfers have taken 1-2 days (Alberta / Manitoba / B.C.). Other provinces may vary ;). Call CFO in a few days, and see if the transfer has been approved, rather than waiting for them to mail the reg. cert., this will save you a bit of time (they can fax you a copy). Also, ask them at the same time, to issue you an ATT to transport gun back to home.

Sold a prohib. to another CGNer.... It's been over 4weeks.
Every time I call I get:
"It's almost done... Call back later today and it should be ready..."

I just did one , a new record .
2 days .

I was the other end of that transaction... I called to complete the transfer around 2pm on and the next day at 10am I received the call so say the transfer was complete.

I just got all the paperwork off the fax. The request to transfer was made on Monday AM and I got it on Wednesday at Noon. The temporary and long-term ATT's were included. Somehow I thought that it would take a lot longer then it did.

I pick up my first handgun on Tuesday, a Colt Official Police that was my grandfathers for many years. I'm pretty stoked!

A transferred a pistol that took 3 days, & bought a AR lower that took a month to transfer to me. When I was calling in to find out what was going on it felt like I was speaking to a auto mechanic, was told so many lies/excuses to get me off the phone

In AB, call for an ATT, they will do it quick, with just a few questions.....
Ask for a short term, for transport, from Sask, and ask for it to be faxed.
It will go really smooth, i believe......

Depends where you are. In AB - a couple days (or minutes if you have a fax machine and no criminal record) In QC/ON - maybe never, if the accounts on the Forums are any indication
