How long in between calling for turkey?

I wait between 10-15 minutes and time it on my watch. But it also can depend on whether, terrain, etc.

The distance a turkey can hear is incredible. And you don't very often hear a hen squawking non-stop.

well to make a long story short...... i went to visit my daughter and grandkids this weekend....... on the way i just happen to stop of at lebaron.... i picked up a crap load of turkey calls....... i handed them out to all my daughters neighbors kids.....lol im not well liked up there now by the older ppl...

I had a hen walk by me and she was clucking about one every five seconds. She contiued on like this for about 5 minutes. Copy what is happening around you. When all is quiet dont call as often. But I have been in the bush when a gobbler goes every 3 minutes.
Times like these I call more agressively.

Last year I was lucky enough to have two hens really close by, about 35 yards away, that I let call for me. They clucked quite often, but only yelped once every 8 minutes or so...and neither one of them did so at the same time.

Didn't have to call at all that day...a couple Jakes and one Tom came in on their calls alone. Tom went down...hard.

This year...no such luck, yet.

I depends on the situation at hand, some need very little and I have worked birds for as long as 3 hrs like the one this year called almost non stop and he finally broke in. once I had him with in 100 yards I let him tell me when he needed a talking to, and then jelly headed him.

Best strategy for me that brought me many goblers to the crossbow, is just to scrath in dry leaves maybe with one cluck, mature gobbler just love that setup... JP.

So I see there is a new post on this thread, and I think, "I have not been on Gun Nutz drunk or something????????????:confused::confused::confused::confused::confused: I don't recall anything like that topic.........."

Then I see the date stamp.

And in eleven years I still call about the same amount, once a year...........

Attaboy Doug.... lol

If he gobbles to my call i never call again unless I see him following hens the other way.

Then I'm trying to call to the hen, make her start yapping....then cut her off and get her to come check me out. Gobbler always follows.

....just as an update.
I shot one.

Yep, that's pretty much my record too, for lo these many years................

But I think of it as an opportunity to feed black flies that otherwise might wither and die before they have a chance to reproduce.

First thought when I killed the gobbler was that I can finally go back to trout fishing in the spring. At least I am a moving target for the blackflies.

This! I've had gobblers gobble every 30 seconds and made their way towards me, I've also had days when you'd hear a cluck or put every 10 minutes... You go with the flow, one of biggest tom I've shot came in from 800m away and WOULD NOT stop gobbling as he was making his way towards me, I did the same until he came to shooting distance and that's when I shut him up.
