How Long Is a Loaded Speedloader Good For?

Just ordered some HKS speedloaders for my GP100. I plan to load one up and place it in the safe next to the gun. My vision is that, in an emergency, friends and loved ones will be able to open my gun safe (no I haven't given out the combination), see the big shiny 357 with bullets next to it and figure things out from there. Mostly a safeguard in case I'm not there or I'm incapacitated.

Question is, do speedloaders warp, or otherwise break down if they bear weight for long periods? Should I stand it up on the bullet tips or lay it on its side? Thanks for any insight.

we all know self defence is illegal in Canada, ESPECIALY with a firearm...

I realize that :) And the very fact that the gun is in a safe precludes the possibility of it coming out for small stuff. This is in case of a once-in-a-lifetime SHTF scenario.

Agreed, regardless of the law I will defend my family with any and all force available or required. As for the speed loaders, I can't see why they would warp. Just check em every month or so.

hahahahah! great thread!! u defend your family with a firearm, you will sell everything you own and give it to lawyers to keep you outta jail,,, i have spoken,...:))

Since the HKS loaders don't have anything under spring tension they should be good indefinitely. Some of the spring loaded ones may suffer plastic failures over long periods of time, depending on their details and materials used.

"...do speedloaders warp, or otherwise..." No. Neither do magazine springs.
"...figure things out from there..." Forget that and teach 'em to be safe and competent. Untrained people just get hurt or hurt others.

My girlfriend and I have an unspoken understanding. She doesn't mind me having guns, but she's not interested in them either.

In fact if I mentioned SHTF plans, I know she'd say "Think positive and it won't happen."

Yeah I know ;) But she lightens me up.

bad idea keeping ammo with the gun op {also contrary to law BTW}, here's hoping your girl is rpal licenced if she has access to your wheel gun {another legal issue}.

This provision of storage that I'm referring to is probably the 1 gun law in Canada that makes sense IMHO.

Totally legal to keep the ammo with the gun (as long as it isn't in the gun) if it's in a safe, BTW. Probably dicey to have the girlfriend have access if she isn't licenced tho.

A speedloader wont hold any bullets at all unless they are contained in the cartridge :p..I had to... As mentioned, they will last indefinately as there is no spring tension to weaken on the HKS type.

If you are really worried get some machined aluminum speed loaders from 5 Star Firearms, I have one of theirs for my 500 S&W, nice piece of kit.
