How long to get restricted PAL?

These new events by the Liberals have really got me thinking. While I enjoy guns and beleive people have a right to own and shoot them, I am not currently a firearms owner, nor do I have a PAL. I grew up around guns, hunting, target shooting, etc. While I did take my firearms safety course, as a young teenager I never took the next step to get my PAL.

I've been wanting to pick up a handgun for sometime for plinking and entertainment, but kept putting it off. Now, it is really time to stand up and be counted so to speak.

How long does it take to go through the steps? Could it be accomplished by jan 23rd? What is the cost? What forms need to be filled out?

Any help is appreciated. I am in Saskatoon, Sk.

yes you could have the licence by the 23rd of Jan. You can challenge the course (non restricted and restricted) for about $60 bucks and send in the forms (goto www.cfc.gc.ca for the forms) and $80 will cover the licence fee for 5 years. You should start looking for a local range and become a member, it's a must for owning restricteds. Im sure someone from SK will read this and will help you out, were actually a pretty friendly bunch.

And don't worry if you don't get the PAL by the 23rd. IF the libs form the next government, this will still have to go through all the usual steps to be passed into law. It will take time.

You can challenge the Non-Restricted Course and the Restricted Course at the Saskatoon Wildlife Federation. I think they are about $40 each to take including the textbooks. You must have your non-restr. before taking your restricted. You could easily write both exams one right after the other. You can show up almost any time during the day and they will administer the test. Hope this helps

PS, Once you pass the exams, you can apply for your license. Get both exams done so you don't have to pay for a non-rest. PAL and then again for a restricted. Application forms are available on www.cfc.gc.ca website. It takes 45 days for approval after submitting your application to the Canada Firearms Centre.
