How long to transfer a restricted firearm in Ont...to BC buyer.

Hey everyone.....I'm looking to buy a pistol from a CGNer from Ottawa..and I live in BC....I've read alot of comments about how long it takes the Ont Govt to do paperwork in regards to firearms......I'm just wondering if I buy this gun.....Will I have to wait a LONG time before it can be transfered into my name....I dont want to have to wait weeks to shoot my new toy......Any BC shooters who have recently bought restricted guns from someone in Ont...Please tell me how long it took to get your gun????...Thanks...Wes

Im pretty sure you won't have much trouble with a transfer coming FROM Ontario. Its the stuff that comes into Ontario that gets us a long-ass wait.

Had one done last week in 2 days. Also sold a pistol and had my short term ATT same day with a 15 minute call back time. We got some sweet folks running the show out here.

Im in week f*cking FOUR. When I called last time the guy was like "well you have to wait your turn we do these in order and I have 400 more to go through"...

Bull#### they do them in order! I already know of 3 people who started their transfers after me and theirs are done. Ugh... stupid province.

In the past I've waited many weeks - even up to 2 months for a non-restricted. Anyways, not sure what happended this time. The wait times normally with the Ont CFO office are pathetic.

I've waited as long as one month for transfer from Ontario to B.C. and on the other hand from Alberta to B.C. ,one to two days.thats for handguns.its got to be the pronvices or the sellers?

Whatever province you live in, it is that CFO that must approve the restricted transfer. That is why there usually ISN'T a problem for an Ontario gun owner to sell a handgun out of the province...the problem comes when we try to sell a handgun/restricted firearm to someone residing in the province of Ontario.

The Ontario CFO is so pathetic is almost funny. The average wait time to get a restricted approved is around 4-5 weeks. Fastest I've seen was a little under two weeks. The longest was over 3 months. WTF???

Contrast that to the Newfoundland CFO (my home province) and I get instantaneous approvals and while I'm still basically on the phone our Newfoundland CFO will be updating my long-term ATT to reflect the new purchases and faxing it out to me! Elapsed time is 5-10 minutes.

I'd go nuts having to deal with the Ontario CFO on a regular basis. Frankly, I don't know why Ontario gun owners haven't been kicking up on the pathetic level of service they're getting from their CFO.
