how long to tumble?

+1 for the dillon additive, I tumble till there clean, check them ever hour or so, Cloth baby diapers make excellent dust removers, and there washable.

Edit: Also have a dillon cage basket tub media remover thing, (technical I know, name escapes me at the moment) takes about 3-6 turns and all the medias out of the cases, inside as well, even my 204 with its tiny neck, I open the basket, and wipe down all the shells for dust, and visual inspection.

Usually a few hours, up to half a day for old, tarnished, range pickup brass, walnut with Lyman additive.

I accidentally left one batch on for over a day, had just put new additive in, and it polished most of the nickel off some handgun brass.

Using a Lyman pro Magnum tumbler. 1.75 gallon capacity. 1/2 lb of Tufnut and 1 1/2 lbs of corncob.
45ACP - 2hours. 9mm - 3 hours. 38 special 3 hours. After polishing 10,000 rounds I add 20 minutes to time. Then I throw in a few small rags with the next batch cleaning the crud off the media, add a little tufnut(16 oz cup) and there good for polishing another 10000. Best day polishing was 3200 45ACP in 8 hours.

Seperator. Media seperator. Seperates media from......I'll go STFU now.:D

Overnight won't hurt.

Sounds like lots of guys have pretty clean brass to start with. If you buy range brass to save money, or if your brass is left out in the weather cleaning them can be more of a challenge. Often I tumble brass for 4-5 days. Walnut media seems to work better than corn cob media for cleaning very dirty brass.

It will depend on your media and how new it is. For new clean media I just tumble for 1-2 hours since I have a timer on my extension cord. For older media you can tumble 4-6 hours. Some people leave it overnight.

Basically what he said.

I plug it in on my way to work and when I get home, it's nice and clean. Or before going to bed but make sure it's in a basement or garage and people don't get annoyed at the little bit of noise (not much) it makes.

You can put those additives in to extend the cleaning ability of your media, too. I just use the Lyman stuff since I got it at LeBaron when they had their 17% off for members.
