I'm looking for some opinions on an acceptable waiting period for my new remy 870 to come in. It's been 3 months now, and the store I ordered it from in Port Alberni said they would have it by the beginning of may...worst case scenario mid may. Its may 26 today and I still have no gun to shoot. I had holidays last week and was choked that I couldn't even show my buddies this gun I've been braggin' about.

I work in Vancouver and have been to stores that have the gun I want in stock.

Would it be disrepectful to tell the alberni store to tell them to go pound sand and bring a gun back with me from work? I mean....they promised it 3 bloody weeks ago and I got frigin rabbits eating my garden. I want to shop local, but this is driving me crazy.

buy somwhere else.
Having a gun shop without 870,s is like a gas station without smokes, should never happen, and if it does its a sH**Y store

The guys around my area are having trouble getting remington stuff lately, so I go elsewhere if i have to. I find it puts pressure on the local dealers, who in turn put pressure on their suppliers.........so on and so forth. The only problem is I have been told no one cares about our tiny Canadian market

Don't shoot the rabbits eating your garden. They're innocent creatures. Just scare em away but don't shoot the fuzzy things.

I know remy 870's are pretty hearty, but how safe is buying used?

I understand the whole buyer beware thing, and do see a few guns I want from members, but would be pissed at getting a lemon for my first gun.

Anyone out there ever been screwed from a deal done on this site?

there have been just under 10million 870s sold and about 6 million of them still in use.
the only thing to really check on a rem 870 to make sure you do not get a dud, is the ejector spring.
Rack the action back and you will see a long flat spring on the back inside wall of the frame if it of the housing it sites in looks damaged or missing, then its a 50$ trip to the gunsmith to fix it.
Just about nothing else is a major issue with the rem 870.
Alot of the newer cheap express guns have rought chambers, so in many ways a used 870 can be a batter deal.

Waiting is a pain but I waited 6 months for a Ruger 96 from SIR but they did deliver. As far as a used 870 I don't think you would get screwed by some one on the E&E. The site and people are well monitered and jerks are usually flamed on the feedbacks. The trader ratings are pretty good indicater of character, but not always.Do your homework, contact buyers and sellers. As far as telling your gun store to shove it,thats up to you.If that is all thats close and affordable you might have to give them a chance. Just in case you want to buy other stuff there some day.I would be asking for an answer and inquire about cancelling your order...It doesn't hurt to be open with them...They should be explaining the 3 week extra wait... If there are similar guns for sale in the area, point this out to them,if they just blow you off then let them watch your back going out the door...It is the last they will see of "U"...

And thats the rub......I was in the store last friday and explained that I work on the mainland, have been to stores that have them in stock, etc...., and that I wanted to buy local...start a repore...etc....because I plan on buying a remy 700 soon, and some restricteds once I'm done the course.

The clerks were very nice, and I waited and came back, and explained it all to the owner, who just shrugged his shoulders and stated "I'll get here when it gets here", and gave me the "americans don't want us to have guns" routine. If he had at least been somewhat sympathetic, I wouldn't even think about going out of town, but I'm bringing home my first gun this week.....screw it.:dancingbanana:

Reliable guns in Vancouver is the ultimate red neck candy store around the these parts. It's like the garden of eden in there.

Tons of things in stock...incredibly helpfull employees who didn't mind giving a newbie a demo on how to disassemble AND reassemble an 870, how to care for it.....very cool place.

I definitely found my shop.....
