Well, in more than 5 gallons actually. We've got a big winter reloading project and I have no idea how many are in this bucket. If someone knows an average weight for an empty .223, I could weigh it and work out a rough estimate, too.

Thanks.

6.38 grams per is what i got. weighed one and also 10 @ 63.8g

That would make it aprx. 156 cases to the kg. Thank you.

I'll have to wrangle a scale up this evening.

Commercial .223 rem averages 14lbs per thousand. IVI tends to average 15 lbs/K.

That bucket is all Federal .223 and Lake City 5.56 so it would probably work out somewhere between your two numbers.

.223 at an average of 95.28 gr/ea = 73.5 cases per pound
13.6 pounds = 1000 cases
Just weigh the bucket and use the above formula

Within an acre !

you could always dump them out, count and sort by head stamp etc. inspect them at the same time.save time later.no sense tumbling/cleaning a bunch of crap brass.

They have been sorted. That's all the stuff with crimped primers. The bad ones have been culled. I'm not counting that high in my head.;)

I've got another 2 1/2 gallons or so of other headstamps.

If memory serves me there are approx 450 in a gallon.

That seems low. I know you can fit about at least 1100 loaded .223 in a .50 BMG can.

Alrighty. I found a scale and the loaded bucket weighs in at 71.4 pounds. An empty bucket wouldn't register on the scale so I'll knock off the 0.4 pounds and call it 71 pounds of cases.

71 lbs equals 32.205 kg. Using 6.38 grams/case as a value I get 5047 cases.

71 lbs equals 497,000 grains. Using 95.28 gr/case that equals 5216 cases.

So, call it somewhere between 5000 and 5300 in that heaping bucket.

10 cases gives 63.8 grams (of mixed FC IVI WIN)
then
71.1 cases gives 453.6 grams (one pound)

i got very close to the same as L frame. 14.08 pounds per 1000 cases

lets call her 14 lbs is a 1000 empty casings

Just kidding. That said I don't have enough emtpies right now to fill that 20L pail or even a smaller one to weigh/gauge an amount.

Perhaps filling a 1L container and counting then weigh/x20L to get an idea?

That would work, too.

I'm happy with the ~5k+ number based on weight. No need for any greater precision.

Nah, foreign workers end up costing way too much.

Probably cheaper to hire some laid off CAW members from out east. Though, lack of productivity and absenteeism would most likely make that a losing proposition.

We should have bought more bullets.

Yep we should have.

I can't afford a repetitive strain injury. I wouldn't be able to satisfy myself then. I think that we could get a grant of somesort which would leave money left over for other services!
