how many .22's do you own? And why? (hunting/Collecting etc..)

I likely shoot 100 rounds of .22lr for every round of centerfire ammo.I love 22 rimfires,nothing like going to moose or deer camp and doing some plinking,or walking the FS roads midday looking for a grouse.Its all part of the hunting camp experience.My favourite is a 22 rolling block chambered in 22short....made the same year Custer had a bad hair day..and that will be one of the last to be turned over

Here in UK I have a few -
1. 1910 BSA Model 2 takedown in fitted case with all accessories and BSA tang sight fitted.
2. 1930 Walther Sportmodelle 2 semi-auto/bolt action - my dad's rifle bought in Cork in 1930.
3. Mid-1930's Walther DSM, sadly bubba'ed in the 1950s.
4. Mauser ES350B with period Ajack scope on high mounts.
5. 1958 BSA Martini Intl MkII - left-handed action - with x18 Unertl Super Target scope with adjustable head.
6. 1960-ish ditto with one-off laminated stock and x18 Tasco T707 scope.
7. 1967 Anschutz Model 1409 with x16 Tasco T707 scope.

I don't count 22 long rifle firearms. I just seem to accumulate a lot of them.
Every few years I look at the 22rf safe and shake my head, look them over and decide which ones are going to the next gun show.
Once I've decided they get a complete going over to ensure they're clean inside and out and of course function properly.
Then check the internet to ascertain value and put price tags on the trigger guards.
Last spring, I had 15 at the Chilliwack show and they all sold before noon on the first day. I bought two more at the show. Sold another half dozen in Kamloops. The safe was still full.
You just can't have enough 22rf rifles on hand. This year alone, I've given a dozen cleaned up and refurbed single shots to young people so they can go hunting with DAD in the fall and of course learn to shoot well on.
They appreciate those old rifles. Their stocks have been refinished, bores cleaned to shiny bright, blue touched up and function assured as well as accuracy. I haven't seen one yet disappointed.
There are a couple I just won't sell because they are unique. A lovely Anchutzz with double set triggers, an incredibly accurate Brno, a BSA RaLock and a few more.

Holy crap that I would love to see!!! I'm kinda a collector of nylons and thought my 15 was decent but wow! Would love to pick your brain and chat about what you all have for models, sounds like all of them plus several doubles......lol.
As for .22's I have somewhere between 25-30 at the moment.
Way back when , for my 15th birthday ( just got my gun/hunting license too ) mom and dad gave me a Winchester-Cooey Mod 600 . 1000's of rounds , tons of rabbits and good memories . Still got it and don't shoot it much and it looks like it's been thru a warzone , but I know it will shoot dead nuts on today.
I later "graduated" to a semi action when a buddy had a Stevens 87C for sale for $50...well...that extra long barrel and brass bead front sight , I was / can nailing tango's at the pull of a finger . Still got it and used as main bunnie buster today.
A good 'ol Cooey M82 is also in my inventory . More of a collector's gun , very accurate and built like a tank in military style full length walnut stocks.
Picked up a Mossberg 715T , despite poor reviews and have to say that I've put literally 1000's of rounds thru it without one problem... yeah , it's a Mossy plinkster in clamshell stock and all that wannabe lookealike stuff , but it looks so cool with the optics , lazer , rail guards , AFG , cheekriser , M4 buttpad...ect....Don't care if y'all don't believe it or not , but , shooting at pop cans , using green lazer -50yd - from the hip ...not one problem...until they came up with a restricted model that , of course , took the same mag , so that limits the mag capacity to 10rd from 25... Otherwise it's the most funnest rifle I have .
My latest purchase is a Remington 597 .22mag ( scoped ) with the laminated stock and bull barrel . A little more bang for a little more buck , but It shoots straight , great looks and hits hard(er) and 75 - 100yd shots on coyote or jacks are done 'n down...cheap mags however.

CIL Model 171 .22LR First gun and not on the sell list. Many a dead Saskatchewan gopher from this gun and the odd jackrabbit.

I have an "arsenal" of 22 firearms (both NR and R) plus ammo.
Don't tell Wendy or the Turd about it.
As my father used to say, there is nothing like shooting a 22 - they are cheap to use, don't deafen you with muzzle blast or dislocate your shoulder with recoil.
He had insight into this matter as I figured he and his gun shop owner buddy had enough of large calibers back in the late 70s-early 80s when they did damage to themselves (cracked sternum & pleurisy) sighting in the pair of 375 H&H, but no, they had to get a 460 Weatherby Mag for a go! Standing behind them firing there was a distinct concussive force to the chest when that thing fired. They asked me to try. No thanks even with the bag of lead shot between the butt stock and shoulder. 300 Win Mag is my limit. One needs to know their limits when it comes to all things in life.

^lol.. I don't know who Wendy is, but "the Turd"...made me chuckle out loud.
On another note.. I just re-read the title of this well-aged thread, and while I maintain a very small collection..I'm at a point where I'm liking/using what I have, no "dead wood" so to speak. As for the "why" of having more than 1 22LR rifle, part of my justification is that the "consumables" (=ammo/cost) with a purchase like a 22 rifle is almost a non-factor. Centerfire rifles catapult you into the $1.25 (+++) a shot category and (or) brass/bullets/primers/powder if you're a reloader like me. Maybe I'm too frugal, but I take almost zero pleasure in punching paper with centerfire rifles. If my centerfire leaves the house, it likely has varmint-slaying plans. lol Most of my shooting "itch" is easily scratched by rimfires, or the odd round of trap.

Currently just a Ruger 10/22. blued, synthetic stock, quick detach swivels with a GI web sling, and a little simmons 3-9 .22mag scope on top. Volquartsen target hammer installed, and I stoned the sear, disconnector, and trigger return plunger. Trigger pull is now somewhere right around 2lbs and is a beautiful thing compared to the (no joke) 10+lbs it was stock.
When my financial situation improves I'll be looking for another .22 bolt gun (sold the last one for vet emergency) to be able to shoot CCI quiets without having to deal with constant issues. Bolt action and the CCI quiets are wonderful for pest control.

Shooting 22 does nothing for me. Every time I see one I think I need, it's usually sold again within 3 months, and if its not getting used it doesn't stay in cabinet long. Even the Winchester low wall I had last that I thought I'd keep for an investment as I got a terrific deal on it, still only lasted 4 months in the gun cabinet.

the last few years i have rediscovered 22lr's. currently only own three. annie mpr, cz varmint and a modified ruger 20 22. as i down size my centrefires i'm going to add a couple more. thinking of another anschutz and maybe an ar 22 varient. also higher end glass for my mrp.
