How many .40 brass in a 5 gallon bucket?

Weigh one case in grains. Divide the weight of one case into 7,000. That'll give you the number of cases per pound.
Weigh the bucket. Multiply the number of cases per pound by the weight of the bucket. Won't be exact due to the weight of the bucket itself, but it'll be close.

LOL
did you know that nickel and brass cases are different in weight, powder residue, the tare (the bucket itself) any crud that may be in the bucket... Not a chance...

Round or square bucket? between 6500 and 7000

Nice algorithm. Also weigh the bucket empty, then subtract from total.
Using grains per pound is very much a reloader solution.

Alrighty, turns out there were 42 lbs plus in the bucket, and 25 shells weighs 4 ounces so there are at least 4200 in the bucket at least 4/5 full. So, whoever's got the closest guess, PM me your address.

based on your calculations and assuming your judgement is correct on 4/5 full your full bucket should have 5250 when its full or between 5-6 thosand like I said lol

When I bought 45 ACP by the pail it weighed 63lbs and contained roughly 5000 pcs
